Condensation inside windows

I'm fairly new to Mumsnet, but I have to say I have learnt so much from the Good Housekeeping threads. Definitely my favorite section Wink

So, flattery over, I'm hoping you can help with a windows query (can you feel the excitement building?)

Our house has double glazing, but fairly old I think and not PVC. It's an Edwardian house so the windows are quite large. In a couple of them there is condensation in between the two panes of glass iyswim. DH thinks this means the windows need replacing, but MIL reckons they need taking out, cleaning and resealing only. What do you think? Or is there another solution? I'm very good at ventilating, not drying washing inside etc Grin

And if they did need replacing, is it £££ to get non PVC windows that sort of look like sash windows (what we have atm - we moved in in September)?

Sounds like the seals may have gone

HedgeSparrow · 10/02/2011 14:52

Is that quite easy to remedy? I am totally clueless about this type of thing!

i had this and got someone in to replace the panes only, worked out £100 approx per window

If it's between the glass it means the vacuum between the panes has gone so unfortunately they will need replacing. Had some done in last house and it wasn't too expensive. Good luck

Thanks! Replacing the panes doesn't sound too traumatising. I like the frames and they seem fine.

Window panes will need to be replaced. If they are large windows then count on it being costly.

phone round double glazing companies and get them in for quotes - you;ll be amazed at how much the price can vary - so do shop around.
