Single duvet for a toddler - tog rating?

My 3 yo is nearly ready to go into a "big girls bed" (standard 3ft single). Any ideas if a 13.5 tog (standard tog rating for a single duvet) is a no no?

AFAIK it would be ok a three year old should be able to kick it off if they get too hot.

If you haven't actually bought it yet though, I would recommend one with a lower tog and a top sheet and blanket for added flexibility.

Mine would have found that too warm. They would also have found topsheets plus blankets a real bother, as they are all rockers and rollers in their sleep.

IMO best is a 3-in-1 quilt: 4tog and 9tog that can popper together to make a 13tog. Start off with the 4tog and adjust as ne essary.

a maximum of 10.5tog is recommended for a child in a single bed. They are widely available.

as in a single sized 10.5tog duvet is widely available

Thanks everyone. I think I'll go for the 3-in-1 option in that case and put the 4 tog on to begin with. She's in a cot bed at the moment with a 4 tog cot bed duvet so I'm sure that'll be warm enough.

Much appreciated! Wine

I think this a really good choice. My boys (now both in single beds) have these 3-in-1 duvets you mention. Thing is they have been sleeping under the 9 tog throughout this winter (which hasn't been the warmest) but have still complained they have got too hot in the night (whilst using the 9 tog). I would therefore have gone for a 7 tog for winter if I were choosing again.

Interestingly, though there was a 7 tog option in the cot bed duvet my youngest had until just recently, when he moved into his full size single bed aged 5. I just couldn't find a 7 tog duvet in a single duvet size!

I also agree with those who mentioned a 3-in-1. When my DS went into a full size bed, we got a 3-in-1 with a 4.5 tog for summer, 10.5 tog for spring/summer and then you combine them within the cover for winter.

TBH, I think 13.5 is probably fine for now when it's colder, but you may as well start shopping around as it will definitely be too warm in a few months.

Sorry, meant "spring/autumn" above. Tired!! Grin
