Blood on duvet cover

haggis01 · 08/02/2011 12:47

My DD got some blood on an new expensive white and pink gingham duvet cover I just bought her last month. She didn't tell me - so the blood is totally dried in.

I have tried soaking it in cold salty water. Applying bicarbonate of soda and lemon paste. Spraying it with an Oxygen stain spray and washing it at 90 degrees with vinegar. Stain a bit faded at edges but still there.

Any miracle cures????

Thanks

Not sure if the salt would have helped tbh.

The relevant Stain Devil or a Vanish stick are my usual last resorts.

Fingers crossed for you, so annoying!

I think I heard somewhere that washing a stain on hot would just set it in...may be too late to sort it out.

However - we got blood over our white duvet cover (or rather DS2 did when he cut his head open on Xmas EveSad) and it was well and truly dried in by the time we got around to washing it. We covered all bloodstains with Ecover stain remover, left for a couple of hours, washed at 60 and it went first time! It was 100% cotton, don't know if that made a difference?

Thanks - will buy stain devil and/or the ecover on next trip to supermarket. The cover is 100% cotton, in the past on clothes etc the Oxy spray has ususally worked but not this time.

You are right washing in hot water sets the stain - I thought it was ok as I had soaked it in cold water first and let the bicarb paste soak in overnight etc - thought the hot wash would work with the paste and Oxy spray and kind of dissolve.

Saliva is supposed to work...

haggis01 · 08/02/2011 17:02

thanks JetLi - I have just read that on a cleaning site, apparently hydrogen peroxide (if you can fund where to but it)works too. I would need a lot of saliva though - bit gross!

Try the local chemist for the peroxide - they'll have it behind the counter. A 250ml bottle cost about 40p last time I bought some (makes a good mouthwash too!) Smile

Very surprised the salt didn't do the trick it always works for me.

Anyway now you've washed it your best bet is to hang it out on the line for a few days in the hope the sunshine fades it, it should help even if it doesn't seem very sunny.Grin

Thanks JetLi had no idea chemists still stocked it.

Try washing on a 90 degree prewash with Oxyclean or similar. That got dried blood out of my duvet cover.

Mother used to soak bloodstains in milk, but it might only work when fresh.
