House still smells of curry - 3 days later

I made a fabulous (if I do say so myself) curry with seeds and spices on Friday night but Monday morning and the house still honks. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the smell while you're cooking / eating it but come Monday morning I don't want it while I'm eating my cornflakes. Help! Any advice to clear out the smell. Windows are open around the house and have been up to the shop to buy some Oust.

Empty your bin? Clean your cooker? The smell must be coming from somewhere - do you have curtains in the kitchen? - I cook a lot of curry and have never been bothered by the smell.

Do you have a cooker hood and does the filter need changing?

EldritchCleavage · 07/02/2011 12:48

I use this method: put an orange or lemon (cut in half) into a pan of cold water. Bring it to the boil and let it simmer for a good while. it should help to dispel the curry odour and give your kitchen a fresh, citrussy smell.

This is usually a problem in our house. The only thing that works for me is to open ALL the windows at the same time. The wind tunnel effect does the trick in about ten mins.

I have sometimes resorted to Fabreze-ing the curtains to get rid of the smell but only as a last resort.

We had this with a curry a few weeks ago - the house reeked for a week. We havebcurry regularly but there was just something about this one that lingered.

The smell went eventually but Eldritch's tip sounds good.

When I came downstairs this morning I wished I hadn't made smoked haddock risotto on Friday-can still smell it! Grin

Thanks all, will try the lemon trick.

Bin empty, kitchen and oven scrubbed to within an inch of their lives (new kitchen so still v. obsessive about it!) and no curtains or blinds up to harbour the smell. No curry we have had has EVER done this before.

Ellangirl - I feel your pain. I went out before, came back in and the smell hit me as soon as I opened the front door.

leave some little dishes of white vinegar in various places around the house. it is amazing at absorbing smells.

How new is you new house? Only ask because it could be that the walls are still quite porous. This could mae the smells linger longer than usual.

Or I could be talking utter twaddle Grin
