How do you you clean baby toys and mats?

DD is 5 months old and all toys go into the mouth. I don't think one is supposed to immerse soft toys (Lamaze etc) in water, and just wiping them with water seems, errm, not enough. On the other hand, I don't want to use any antibacterial cleaning stuff because she will eventually ingest it whilst chewing on a particularly tasty cat paw...

Same question about playmats - during tummy time her face is on the mat a lot, sometimes she possets, and just wiping the playmatseems inadequate.

Thanks for your advice.

Quick wash in machine unless it's got electrical parts.

Thanks, OADCB. So it does not damage all the squeaking/ meowing parts in toys?

What about playmats with non-removable arches?

Not sure about playmat- doesn't it come apart?what a poor design!

Mine was toys that crinkled and had rattles. They were fine.

Tommee Tippee Close to Nature soother/teat wipes are good. I think it's a new product, I picked some up in Tesco a couple of weeks ago. If they're safe for wiping dummies, they must be ok on soft toys. I also use Milton wipes. I wipe things often last thing at night so that it's had time to settle and dry off before a new day of chewing.

Ok, did a test wash with a few toys in the machine. They no longer squeak (but I think it is to the better!) but at least are clean!

ThisFeelsWeird - what a great idea re: soother wipes! Did not see them in Sainsbury today but will check online. Thanks!
