Glasses that are dishwasher proof

Right. I seem to have established that my glasses are etching because of the dishwasher. Apparently this is permanent damage. :(

So does anyone have glasses that can go in the dishwasher and not get scratchy and cloudy? My old ikea ones are looking grim.

I've had glasses from John Lewis that haven't gone cloudy, even though they're always washed in the dishwasher. I got them in the clearance- they were £10 for 6.

Sounds to me though that the problem might be the dishwasher- are you using the correct amounts of salt (depending on water hardness in your area) and rinse aid?

According to the Internet if it was salt or rise aid at fault then it could be undone by soaking glasses in vinegar. Tried that and no joy.
Always use rinse aid and salt. Might get some new ones in sale but would be gutted if they went icky too.

I'm trying some glasses from a catering company, on the basis that they go in commercial dishwashers in pubs/cafes - I have some Duralex Picardy glasses which are stylish but hopefully hard wearing! Only had them 6 months so too soon to tell but OK so far.

Didn't buy them from this site but they have lots of styles/sizes: Duralex glasses

Oooh! They look nice! Where did you get yours from?

I can't remember - I searched in Yahoo till I found a supplier with the cheapest cost/delivery charge. It was a catering company in West London/Middlesex I think. the photo on that website looks more roundy than they actually are - they are not as bulgy as some other styles, but v typical cafe glasses. We also bought the Provence standard glasses which we use for red wine - feels v cafe chic and they go in the dishwasher!

Hmmm I'm rather tempted. They're very nice but maybe I should see if I can do anything to prevent the etching....

This is the reason DH and I choose really cheap wine glasses!

It's a trade off - if you want nice glasses you'll need to wash them by hand so this doesn't happen.

Alternatively, you can buy special glass cleaning steam-only dishwashers but they're quite expensive. I used them when I did wine tastings for a big wine merchant.

Perhaps try running the dishwasher without any cleaning products and see if that works? I've never bothered with that though.

I don't think they exist?

We have cheapo glasses for everyday use that are scuffed from years in the dishwasher, and then some nice denby glasses (wedding gift) we get out if we have guests & only ever handwash.
