Can you recommend a bio washing detergent?

I have found that fairy non-bio and other non-bios such as bold, don't remove staind from my baby's clothes even with a separate stain remover used in-wash.

Can you recommend a bio which hasn't irritated the skin of your family please?

we dont have sensitive skin and have used Bold, Daz, Ariel and Persil, etc. I normally use powder and whichever one is on special offer

What sort of stains?

Sunlight is fab- even in this weather! Removes baby food and curry stains!

arabella36 · 30/01/2011 09:21

Hello dietcokebreak - Mostly food stains of all colours! But also grey knee stains on tights/leggins etc from enthusiastic crawling

Food stains- sunlight worth a go. If no outdoor space even being on chair by window on bright day has worked!

Bio- trial and error. Try stores own brand first- cheapest and will prob be ok.

Ariel liquitabs, the green ones. Love them.

LadyPumpington · 30/01/2011 17:14

Ariel, I had the same problem with non bio and went back to bio powders hasn't really affected my childrens skin at all. Try ariel non bio it's way better then fairy non bio.

takingchances · 03/02/2011 16:52

The difference between bio and non-bio detergents is enzymes...food stains are most enzymatic stains so yes, you are right definitely try a bio detergent on them.

Liquid detergents, including liquitabs, don't contain bleach as it destabilises the formulation. So a bio powder is the best cleaning product available on the market.

Any leading brand would be good, Ariel and Persil are prob best.

Thank you all for those tips. Sounds like Ariel is getting lots of votes so I'll try that.

Ariel powder is down to £5 for a 50 wash box in Asda at the moment

shodatin · 04/02/2011 23:18

I can recommend Co-op bio liquid

hugebelly · 05/02/2011 14:54

would you really want bleach in your detergent?

I use a liquid and never have problems getting out stains.

Seona1973 · 05/02/2011 16:20

the bleach apparently is what helps keep the inside of the machine clean - my machine gets slimy and leaves marks on my clothes if I use liquid detergents.

mousymouse · 05/02/2011 18:13

ecover bio.
if I have bad stains I soak over night an then wash. can*t claim stain free, but ok.

hugebelly · 05/02/2011 20:08

I agree with you Seona, I do get a slimey build-up using liquid. I think I'd use powder for sheets and towels, but liquid for clothes as I have to spot treat a lot of clothes as I have messy kids Grin

Seona1973 · 05/02/2011 20:11

I use washing up liquid to spot treat stains!
