What household services do you pay for?

I do everything at home and i think the only thing id really pay for is the carpets to be cleaned (very old wool carpets, do not trust myself to clean them lol). Everything else i could do myself.

I know a few of you have cleaners or housekeepers but what other things do you pay for doing around the home? For example oven cleaning, pushchair cleaning, pet sitters etc

We have a cleaner for 3 hours a week.
After building / decorating we paid a company to do a deep clean.
We have the carpets professionally cleaned a couple of times a year (in particular after potty training twins!)
Once or twice we've had a gardener just for a day when things have got out of control!

Ambi · 29/01/2011 14:35

window cleaner, everything else we do ourselves.

Itsjustafleshwound · 29/01/2011 14:38

oven cleaning
Duvet cleaning - my washing machine is just too small to hold my king size duvet

Everything else I try to do myself or with DH's help.

I will treat myself to getting our carpets cleaned - especially now that the youngest is potty trained.

bibbitybobbityhat · 29/01/2011 14:39

Oven cleaning

Window cleaning

Carpet cleaning

Occasionally have a friends' cleaner come in to do a spring clean

shinyshoes · 29/01/2011 14:40

window cleaner, that's it

kayah · 29/01/2011 14:42

nothing at the mo - too skint ;)

I did carpet cleaning - 24 hour hire, I doubt professional firm would have as much time to spend on the carpet as I have

Snuppeline · 29/01/2011 14:43

We have a great cleaner four hours a week (or dp and I would go our separate ways I am quite sure!), carpet clean once or twice a year, occationally treat the car to a four man thorough clean inside & out. Otherwise we do everything ourselves.

AMumInScotland · 29/01/2011 14:43

Window cleaner
Gardener - he cuts the lawn and the hedges, and sometimes other stuff as we either have the right weather but no time or vice versa
Nothing inside the house - we can manage that ok! To my admittedly low standards anyway Grin

NancyDrewHasaClue · 29/01/2011 14:44

I have a regular cleaner and someone who I send the ironing out to, plus a gardener

Additional window, carpet, chimney and oven cleaning all gets done by someone else.

I do it allSad I would love to have a cleaner!

I would like to get the carpets done (mostly wooden floors), but I never get round to organising itBlush

I've never seen a window cleaner round here.

peanutbutterkid · 29/01/2011 17:08

Carpets: tried to do it myself but looked like pants and impossible with DC underfoot, anyway.

Cleaner once a week for 3 hours: bliss!!

Don't Iron, cleaner can do the windows occasionally.
Paid for painter to repaint the fascia boards etc. (but that's more in the DiY realm).

Garden is DH's realm.

Window cleaning
Decorating
Sofa cleaning
Oven cleaning
Big gardening jobs

Basically we used to have pink jobs (mine) and blue jobs (his) and I "contracted out" most of the pink ones when I had DS Blush

Carrotsandcelery · 29/01/2011 22:05

Outdoor window cleaning.
Full shampoo of carpets every few years.
Gardening that is beyond our ability. (we weed, mow grass etc but get someone in with knowledge about pruning, laying patios etc.)

MonicaFree · 29/01/2011 22:58

In the past:

All laundry done and dried at laundrette
Cleaning lady every week
Ironing
Carpets steamed
Gardening
Cookerburra (oven clean people)
Window cleaners
Duvets/Curtains professionally cleaned

Now and for the forseeable future:

Hmmmmmm. So that'll be just us then. (But it does make us fitter!)

DizzyKipper · 30/01/2011 10:32

Damn all these services I'd love to take out if only I wasn't so broke! I've already told OH once we have kids (we plan on 4) and are in a better financial position I'll be wanting a cleaner - I'll still be working FT, being the one to look after kids, walk dogs, make dinner etc. and have told him I don't want to have to do all the housework myself as well. First time I ever mentioned it he was a bit iffy at the idea - until I pointed out to him just how much I'd be doing and how realistically, with the best of intentions, he wasn't likely to find time to help me Wink.

amidaiwish · 30/01/2011 10:43

4 hours cleaning every week
1 hour ironing every now and again if it is out of control
oven deep clean 1x year
gardener 1 x year for 1 day sort out
window cleaner
curtains dry cleaned every couple of years

hmmm, duvets, yes should get them cleaned Blush

onadietcokebreak · 30/01/2011 12:55

We got rid of window cleaner as wasnt worth it.

I paid for a quick valet of car the other day and would go so again. Would love to have cleaner or professional declutter

exexpat · 30/01/2011 13:02

Window cleaner

Hand car wash/valet every few months when the mud and dog hairs are getting out of hand

Occasionally handyman if I have a list of little DIY jobs - putting up blinds, shelves etc - I expect I could do it if I wanted to, but I'd have to go out and buy an electric drill and probably faff around for ages and end up with a wonky blind, but the handyman can do a whole load of little jobs in 2 or 3 hours.

When living overseas I used to have a cleaner one whole day a week, and she also did a lot of ironing. I rather miss that but can't justify it at the moment (only working part-time).
