Left pooey velour mamas and papas baby gro in a lidded bucket with intention of treating it prior to wash. forgot it now covered in hideous black mould. assuming i get it clean mould may remain unseesn so should i just bin it or use it? money is an issue and its only been worn once but is it worth risk?

No bin anything with mould on it.

cobbledtogether · 26/01/2011 12:44

Washing at 90 should kill off the mould, but you may find that you can't get rid of the black spots.

Eeek 1-1 dp is of the chuck it opinion but it feels so wasteful and it was a gift. I am torn. App milton is very good at getting rid of mould as are vinegar and oxi stain removers but it would be a waste of money if after all that a stains remain.

I have never managed to get rid of mould, but if I did, I would undoubtedly use the baby gro again. But then, I'm a slob

MackerelOfFact · 26/01/2011 12:51

Bin bin bin. Some types of black mould are really dangerous, unless you're a biochemist or something and can reliably identify the mould I wouldn't chance it.

theunmentioned · 26/01/2011 12:53

no

solo · 26/01/2011 12:54

Wash it to get it clean and dye it? I'd use it as long as it was clean. Skint here too...

pookey · 26/01/2011 13:00

Think I am leaning towards bin it, i put the items on a pile of other baby laundry and some mould transferred onto two other items I washed it off under the tap and think it went but because its currently washing at 40 I am paranoid undead spores are multiplying in my washing machine as we speak.

Think I will iron the clean spore infected items...dont want to shrink and ruin everything?

Use washing soda on it. I find it gets rid of lots of undesirable things. And it's cheap! just put a scoop into your washing machine drawer when you put your detergent in.

pookey · 26/01/2011 13:11

Thanks solo I actually did put a small bit in and had forgotten that duh! so feel a bit reassured I wont need to boil everything. Think I am clearly too paranoid to risk the babygro it was originally growing on though :(

Mackrel I am cheered up by image of me identifying mould with goggles and a microscope!

Bin

Beamur · 26/01/2011 22:22

I would wash it and see how it comes out.

FreudianSlippery · 26/01/2011 22:22

No. Even if it came up clean.

Seems wasteful but tbh baby clothes are available so cheaply that they can be replaced with basic stuff.

bessie26 · 29/01/2011 17:47

No, I would put it straight in the bin.
