How to get a good sucking

I am not being satisfied!

Is it my imagination or do vacuum cleaners become less efficient over time?

Mine is on maximum suck but it doesn't seem to be enough.

I should stress that I am using it on the carpet - not for any other purpose. (Oh Missus!)

It is bagless and I have taken it apart to check nothing is blocking it and also cleaned the filter bits.

I had a Dyson once and loved it to start with but I got frustrated by it and replaced it and now have had this one for about two years and it is not doing it for me.

Any advice?

Have you cleaned the brushes? If there's lots of hair caught around it, it gets less efficient at picking up.

I bought an Miele cat and dog - we have no pets, just DD1 and I have very long hair Grin I have to clean the brushes every fortnight at least.

Thanks Poledra - we have a Miele at work and it is when I am whizzing round with it that I notice how good it is compared with mine.

Yes I do clean the brushes as they do get clogged.

I actally remove the brush head completely and pick up bits with the open-ended pole bit most of the time.

That's how I know the suction seems a bit rubbish.

I put a new filter in my vas which helped a lot even though the old filter had looked ok?

Vax not vas!

Just got a sebo upright and it works MUCH better than my miele cat and dog did. Carpets look fab.

I wrecked my Electrolux picking up dried peas
so had it repaired, and it came back much better than new - is there somewhere you could take it in for service?

Sebo - faultless!

Hi again - bumping this again as I have finally got my act together and really taken this thing apart properly.

Normal filters all brushed and washed.

There is a Clean Air HEPA filter which the manual advices I changes every 2 years.

Ok, it's due a change but does this part actually affect the suction (which is my main priority right now)?

Thanks in advance of all advice.

The suction on my dyson got really bad, so I called the helpline - the nice lady asked me to remove the filter completely - the suction was then fine, so she said I just needed some new filters rather than it being a problem with the motor.

Replaced the filters & it was like new Smile
