What is the best way to shorten my net curtains?

I needed a 166cm drop for my new net curtains, and had to buy 183cm as the next one down was 160cm. I have never had to alter nets as much as that before, and whereas before I have taken a tuck and stitched it to the channel at the top, I think this will be too much fabric and will look odd. I cannot cut and rehem the bottom as they have a scalloped edge. Any bright ideas from someone with experience of this?

Unpick the channel (or if you have enough spare, cut it off and start with the cut line). Nets shouldn't start to fray, but you can do a double fold to be on the safe side.

Fold over the cut edge a little (say 1 cm) and press. Fold over again a bit more (say 2-3 cm, but check that you have enough drop still and also to get whatever the nets hang from through the channel. Press again and then sew a few millimetres from the bottom of the channel to close it.

When you're pressing the channel, don't have the iron on too hot, or you'll melt the nets. Test a bit to get the temperature right if you have some spare.
