Help. How do I remove a mark on my wall from one of those stretchy rubber toys

My son has just been given a stretchy rubber snake in a party bag (one of those ones you throw at a window and they stick to it) and when he hurled it at the wall it has left a massive greasy looking mark about 2 feet long.
I wiped it with a damp cloth and nothing happened. does anyone have any tips to help me get it off?
Thanks

Roll some white bread over it.
Sounds daft but it does work sometimes.

Thanks. I tried although with brown bread but unfortunately it hasn't done the trick.

Sorry - my DS did exactly the same with one of those toys - in the end we had to redecorate Sad.

:( I had a feeling that might be the case. It's so annoying we've only been in our lovely new house 7 weeks.

Have you tried baby wipes?

Choufleur · 08/01/2011 19:16

try baby wipes. i find they work wonders on a whole loads of things.

I find magic erasers are very good for marks on walls / paintwork. Worth a try.

peckhammummy · 08/01/2011 19:22

I'm giving them a go now. Each time I wipe it with something it looks like the stain has gone but as the area dries it re-appears again.

Pesky kids.

I saw an episode of "How Clean is your House" where they used WD40 to get rid of various marks made by a large family of children! If you have paintwork, you could maybe try this on a tiny area, but I wouldn't try it on wallpaper.

What are magic erasers? I'm liking the sound of them. WD40 sounds a little scary! Isn't it oil?

magic erasers are a white (toxic) sponge that you dampen to use. The people who fitted my conservatory told me they use them and find them better than the specialist UPVC cleaner. I use them on the skirting board to remove the annoying black scuffs and also on marks on the walls. Pen marks also come of the coffee table (ASD ds forgets to put a tray under him) but you need to polish well after as it leaves a residue.

Originally the erasers were JML but now you can pick them up most places including the pound shop, home bargains etc.

Lighter fuel often works for nasty marks - and it won't stain.

shopalot · 09/01/2011 22:08

a tiny bit of wd40 will work

I know this sounds crazy but I recently read (on some cleaning guru website) that pineapple juice actually gets these marks out... worth a try.
