Damp and mould discovered in bedroom - is wardrobe salvageable?

Just discovered one of our Bedroom Walls is covered in mould and is obviously damp (hadn't been aware of it as we have no loft, so the top of the wardrobe on that wall has been stacked to the rafters with baby stuff etc). Having investigated further, there is mould growing on the inside of the wardrobes and on the back of a small cupboard that lives in the vanity gap.

I've removed and washed all the clothes out of the wardrobe (hopefully that will be enough to save them, sob!), and DH is on the case sorting builders, dehumidifier etc, but will the wardrobe and cupboard themselves be salvageable once the problem has been corrected (and if so, how?) or are we going to have to replace them?

Why oh why do these things happen at the worst times- i'm due to give birth to DC3 in 4 weeks!!!

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your mould problem, it's a nightmare, isn't it?

Can't say for certain if it's salvageable, but the best product I've found for treating mould is this

It has worked really well for me in the past, but be careful, it contains bleach, as my OH discovered when he ruined his fave jumper!

Let the wardrobe etc dry well after using it, and keep at least an inch between furniture/things on top of furniture and your walls. Oh, and air rooms regularly!

Hope this helps.

Thanks Fizzy.

Does anyone else know whether the furniture is saveable once the problem's been sorted?

I need to start budgeting if not, as it's a double wardrobe with built-in vanity table/overhead cupboard!

bleach would kill the spores

Washing up liquid also works.
