Need a new ironing board - any features worth having??

Ours is now very rickety - I've had it since I went to University (it didn't have a lot of use for the first few years!).

DH feels the need to be buying things before the VAT rise, and all I can think of that we need to replace is our ironing board!

Are there any features on modern ironing boards that are worth having, or will another cheapy from Argos do the trick?!

I think the main thing would be that it is flat....

I have a Brabantia, suggested by a friend who is a tailor and so uses hers all the time.It is nice and wide and very stable, also if you are tallish, like me,then the extra height of the Brabantia board is great.

Our new one has a little extension cable with the plug under the board, which is really useful.

Oooh, that sounds good LoopyLoops - what make is it?

I don't think you need much in the way of features. Just make sure that the iron stand is flat and that the ironing board is the right height. Both OH and I are tall, so we always buy the highest one we can find as there is nothing worse than getting backache from doing the ironing.

dearprudenceandtheivy · 27/12/2010 21:17

Yes, a nice high one is the thing. I also bought a brabantia cover for ours which is brilliant.

So no fancy gadgets then?!

DH seems itching to spend money that we don't really have at the moment!

A basic, flat ironing board it is then!

The main thing is just dont get one where the part where the iron sits has an indentation from the main part of the board otherwise the cord will be forever getting stuck in the groove. I hope you can understand what im talking about!

i woud second a Brabntia very sturdy

LoopyLoopsOfSparklyFairyLights · 27/12/2010 22:18

I'm not sure but will check in a bit. :)

Dh says thanks - as long as you check before the VAT increase Xmas Wink

We have a plug under ours. It's a minky pro workstation.
It can also accommodate a steam generator.
Around the £40 Mark. I don't iron but DP likes it!
