I left some pearl barley simmering in a pan while I went of to watch my recording of last night's Upstairs Downstairs with DD. Totally engrossed until I noticed the horrible burning smell. Barley had burnt dry and stuck to pan with a nasty black crust.
It is a stainless stell pan - quite heavy duty. I have soaked it and scraped it and removed the worst of it but there are still quite a lot of nasty black marks on the bottom that I am having real trouble shifting.
Mum recommended vinegar or bicarbonate of soda. I have both but fortunately DD pays attention in science and told me not to use them at the same time as it would have an alarming reaction.
Anyway scrubbing away with a bicarb paste for ages helped some but not enough. It is currently sitting with a bit of vinegar in.
Does anyone have any other magic remedies ot is it just a long slog and persistence?
