childlocks on washing machines..

DS has broken the washing machine for the second time in two weeks by pressing the buttons while the cycle is running. We'll have to pay for a pcb reset.. Does anyone have a machine with a child lock or a guard of some sort to protect the buttons?

no answers just a very hopeful bump.

I currently cover mine with a sheet while it's on but this will not outwit my 18mo trainee washing machine engineer for very long...

mine has an inbuilt one that stops the buttons working durng a cycle, its great because dd2 loves to press the buttons! Its a hotpoint one of the bigger ones cant rember what its called

squashedfrogs · 27/12/2010 12:18

Mine has a childlock which you can set once the program is set. It hasn't been tested by small children so I don't know how robust it is but I've given the buttons a push and it's worked so far. It's a Hotpoint WMF760P.

CuppaTeaJanice · 27/12/2010 12:23

Mine's a Beko and that has a childlock on it. You just press 2 buttons at the same time.

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 27/12/2010 12:24

my washing machine (Daewoo) has one that you set after setting the cycle. Has been tested by small children and has proved to do it's job.

SummerRain · 27/12/2010 12:27

My cheap Beko does and it's brilliant. I just hold in two of the buttons for 5 seconds and it locks the controls so all the twiddling and dialling in the world won't affect the wash. It's a life saver with a 22 month old who's got a compulsion to press every button he sees

snorris · 27/12/2010 12:28

I have Bosch with a child-lock setting. Well tested in this household too!!

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 27/12/2010 12:32

yes mine works by pushing 2 buttons together - except you have to push them one after at nother (so push one, hold it down and then push the other - and the same to unlock)

mamateur · 27/12/2010 14:11

Brilliant. I was checking on the argos site, but childlock doesn't seem to be one of the features mentioned. Can anyone give me the make and model?

OP posts:

ok, I found a list of all models with a childlock on idealo. I think we're going to try and devise some sort of screen a la heroshrew and see if that deters him although he's usually pretty thorough.

I also use a strip of duct tape over the power button.

I've got the Beko with childlock as well, was really pleased when I realised as the expensive one I had before didn't have a childlock on and was a pain.

I used to put a big toybox or a chair in front of the old one to stop little ones playing with it.

soppypreggyloon · 28/12/2010 19:49

Don't know if it's help by you can reset our indesit one by turning the dial to one of the finished cycle markers and then turn it on. That resets it.

Maybe that'll save a call out charge? HTH :)

mamateur · 29/12/2010 15:44

Thanks soppy, the repairman has just been and YAY! he only charged us £10 for his petrol as he has a daughter the same age..
He's taught us how to reset it but it's quite complicated so we're going to try and build a cover. I did find [[http://kiddicarereviews.kiddicare.com/review/1887 but they're no good for the washing machine.
