If you have an induction hob, please help

We recently bought a Fagor IFF-4R induction hob and are experiencing a weird situation. When running the front and back zones together (left or right), they seem to cycle in turn eg front pan has heat for about 1 second then stops then back pan on 1 second then front etc. This means you can't maintain a simmer for example (happens on all power settings). You can also hear it clicking like an annoying clock as it cycles. If you use the hob any other way ie 2 fronts or 2 backs or even front left and rear right (or front right and rear left) there is no 'pulsing' effect. Anyone else get the same on their hob?

I rang Fagor and they say it's normal and all induction hobs do it. Please help me answer this. I have been offered a refund but need to know what to do about replacing it. Please help.

I have a Bosch induction hob and it does not do this. All 4 hobs heat evenly and consistently. I find that I can turn the heat down very low and still maintain a simmer.

Lizzywishes · 21/12/2010 09:25

I mean all 4 rings, not all 4 hobs, of course!

SandStorm · 21/12/2010 09:28

I have a deDietrich and it does this too but only on the highest heat settings. It's never been a problem for me tbh and I'd had it for some time before I even noticed it does this.

I'm the same as Lizzywishes.

All hobs heat evenly and consistantly.

I am really pleased with the induction hob.

I've got a Fagor induction in one of my homes and it doesn't do this, I've got a Neff one in the other house and that doesn't do it either. I'd ring them and ask for someone to come out, I know others have had their Fagor's replaced.

2madboys · 21/12/2010 10:46

I have a Neff and it doesn't do this.

Are your pans placed within the rings? They do need to be placed quite exactly in my experience.

JackUzi · 22/12/2010 21:33

Hi all, thanks for the replies. All the pans are within the rings. I have even bought better pans as Fagor said it could be the pans we are using. I am at the point of removing the hob and replacing with an indesit VIA640C. The company where I bought the hob have offered this unit as an exchange. I am really disappointed with Fagor's attitude. I thought I was buying a good unit in the Fagor, it has excellent reviews and I can't believe the way our hob functions is to be deemed as normal by Fagor. Can anyone give me some model numbers so of their reliable units so I can compare. I would also appreciate knowing the Fagor model that BelieveInLife has. Thanks

Sorry JackUzi my fagor hob is overseas and am in UK at the moment so can't tell you the model number.

JackUzi · 24/12/2010 16:12

No worries, thanks.

JackUzi - mine does the pulsing clicking thing too, but only if you use two rings on the same side. It doesn't bother me too much, it still simmers, but just in pulses, and it's only a problem if I have three or more pans on the go.

I don't know what make it is, but it was a fairly cheap one from B&Q.

I have a Die Dietrich induction hob when I turn the back ring on full the front one lowers itself. I can only have the diagonal rings on full power together. Also it makes a clicking noise and a voom voom as if trying to power up. Does anyone else have this problem. I had an engineer out and he tried to tell me it was normal. But as he also tried to tell me it was wired wrong which we had checked and it was perfect I am not sure that he is not conning me.

I'd like to hit my induction hob with a hammer and get an Aga.

milkybarkidsgirlfriend · 19/06/2011 19:35

ours does this, but it is 8 years old this october, and only as thenextmrsclaus wrote if 2 are on very high on the same side. (say 12 & 12)

It doesnt create any issues, however, as I can use the rings no worries and still cook up a sunday dinner. I thought it was normal?

I want to buy an induction hob, but I have got a big pressure cooker which is not magnetic and I don't want to replace it. Does the disk which they recommend to place between the hob and the pot work and which one would you recommend?

Hi I have just bought an Induction hob from IKEA. Very pleased with it, but cracks have just started to appear all over. Now I bought a whole new set of Induction pans from ALDI. The woman in Aldi said that with here induction pans (not from ALDI) she pre-heats for 30 secs. I didn't get why one would do this. But on the pan packaging it did say pre-heat. Why I remember it stops the clicking that used to happen. But the cracks are still there. Has anyone had this problem. Other than this everything works really well.

FrogFairy · 30/12/2018 00:57

Ikea appliances come with a 5 year warranty. I would return it.
