How much do cleaners charge in average?
It would be useful to know in south london, let's say Croydon/Bromley area...
Thanks!!!

We are South East and pay £11.00 per hour

magnolia74 · 18/12/2010 11:15

I'm in epsom and charge £10 p/h Smile

sea74 · 18/12/2010 13:06

Can I ask you also if british cleaners are more expensive?

Do you mean cleaners in Britain, or cleaners who are of (I presume) white British extraction? In which case, what a bloody weird question. Are you hoping to find a Somali immigrant to exploit?

sea74 · 18/12/2010 13:24

Confused....ehmmm...exploiting? no, look, maybe you are talking about yourself!

It's only that i have interwied a couple and 3 of british extraction charge 4 or 5£ (up to £13 per hour) per hour more than someone not british, but european (italian, spanish and greek...dont know about somalia).

Nope, definitely not. I've never made a recruitment decision based on someone's ethnicity, which seems to be what you are suggesting.

Cleaners charge what they charge; some cheap ones are very good, some more expensive ones are crap. I don't think it can be generalised on basis of nationality or race.

sea74 · 18/12/2010 13:48

My dear, you are really not saying these things to the right person, considering i am foreigner myself.

It's only a matter of fact. I have observed that it seems people of british extraction charge much more so i wanted to know what actually i should be charged for a cleaner.
That's it.

Yes of course, because only white anglo saxons are capable of latent racism. Silly me.

sea74 · 18/12/2010 13:51

whatever...
As you are not answering the topic, you can go.... Grin

sea74 - seems to me you are weighing up whether or not you can be seen to afford a British cleaner over an underpaid immigrant.

MummieHunnie · 19/12/2010 19:32

Racisim issues aside, is the going rate for a cleaner £10-11 ph?

WherecanIhide · 19/12/2010 21:34

£11 per hour? Blimey, I should try cleaning.

watfordmummy · 19/12/2010 21:47

Watford pay £10

anonymosity · 20/12/2010 03:29

The going rate in Central and Greater London is 10-12 quid an hour and has been for about 2 yrs regardless of national origin or status, agency booked or freelance.

sea74 · 20/12/2010 11:23

A big thanks to anyone who has not doubted about my true intentions.

It's only that I would like to hire someone but declare I am employing her, not keeping it in the black market.
At least, in my country, my mother used to do that. Does anyone know how to do it here in england? who do i have to contact?

QueenofWhatever · 20/12/2010 11:23

I pay a slightly terrifying £13 an hour via an agency in Bristol. However, they supply all materials, including hoover and clean a three bed house and do my ironing in two hours a week.

BecauseItoldYouSo · 20/12/2010 11:27

I pay a self-employed cleaner £8.00/hr in West London. It is not through an agency, I find private individuals are cheaper than people through agencies. My cleaner is Polish and fantastic value for money as she does a brilliant job.

sea74 · 20/12/2010 13:15

but do we haveto pay tax?
Or does the cleaner pay tax?

OP posts:
LynetteScavo · 20/12/2010 13:23

How many hours a week are you planning on employing him/her?

Individual cleaners are self employed and pay their own tax. If indeed they earn enough to pay tax.

sea74 · 20/12/2010 14:09

between 3 and 4 hours per week.

So, are you saying that i do not have to say anything to the government that I am an "employer"?

OP posts:
LynetteScavo · 20/12/2010 16:04

No, she will be self employed, and will pay tax/NI accordingly.

You will be the client, rather than empolyer.

festiveflashingmammaries · 20/12/2010 16:06

stick an advert on gumtree and offer 3.50 an hour cash Smile
