What's the best thing to do?
Pour hot water over the handles? Or will this cause some kind of damage I might not have thought of?

Hair drier?

RiojaLover75 · 17/12/2010 21:13

WD40 squirted in the lock?

MarineIguana · 17/12/2010 21:13

I had this today. Run a credit card around the edge.

MarineIguana · 17/12/2010 21:13

Oh sorry is it the lock? Mine were frozen shut around the edges.

RiojaLover75 · 17/12/2010 21:14

Oh is it the lock that's frozen or the door won't open when unlocked?

Megletitsnow · 17/12/2010 21:14

hot water bottle held against the door?

ChippyMinTurnAgainWhittington · 17/12/2010 21:15

Not helpful now, but I think I read somewhere that if you smear vaseline on the rubber seals it will stop then sticking next time.

I second the credit card idea - I did this this afternoon.

GoodnightNobody · 17/12/2010 21:15

this happened to me today. I had to climb in through the boot, heat car up from inside and then let myself out!

southeastastra · 17/12/2010 21:17

anti freeze spray

TooTiredtoGoogle · 17/12/2010 21:27

I can unlock it, but not open the doors.
Would pouring a kettle of hot water over the door be really bad?

Might try climbing through the boot and heating car up from inside.
Thanks.

I'd try some hot water.
I couldn't shut mine again during the cold last week, the mechanism opened but then was too cold to close!

GoodnightNobody · 17/12/2010 21:30

just don't close the boot fully until you can open doors!

nancy75 · 17/12/2010 21:30

don't use hot water if it goes on the window it can crack. tepid water should do it, but you will have a patch of ice on the floor so be careful

anotherbook · 17/12/2010 23:39

RAC says luke warm water or de-icer.

thinkingaboutschools · 21/12/2010 20:45

I went to see the garage which sold me my car when it did this every day when it was below zero - they suggested vaseline round the door

Joolyjoolyjoo · 21/12/2010 20:48

Mine does this (zafira). drives me mad. Am defiinitely going to try the vaseline idea!
