De-greasing the hob

We've recently moved into a new house and the kitchen hob is covered in grease which I've tried unsuccessfully so far to remove. Have tried Mr Muscle type stuff with limited success. A friend told me to use WD40 (?) - which I did try but again, no luck. What's the best way to remove this grease or is it a lost cause?

Have you tried white vinegar diluted? I use it in a spray bottle.

I've managed to shift grease using bicarbonate of soda before.

Have you tried Barkeepers Friend? I love it. It's a powder so it takes a bit of rinsing etc but my hob (stainless steel) comes up a treat.

A strong solution of soda crystals in hot water should cut through the grease. Barkeepers Friend is great for getting the hop sparkling too and if you make a well in the powder and add a bit of water you can make it into a paste which is slighty easier to rinse.
