Broken glass disposal

I have a little collection of broken glass now, stored in some old Cheerios boxes. It is getting a bit silly. How do I dispose of these safely?

Would it be OK to wrap in kitchen paper, put in a bin bag and then leave on top of the bin with a sign on it saying "BROKEN GLASS"? I am worried I might booby-trap the binmen!

can you not just put them in the bin in the cheerio boxes - maybe put the boxes in a carrier bag and tie it first.

Are you near a bottle bank? Eveything I chuck in them sounds like it smashes on impact, so whoever deals with the contents will be expecting broken glass.

You are both right, I am sure. I have just built up such a pile it makes me nervous and indecisive. Does mn do virtual slaps? That's probably all I need.

My mother always wraps broken glasses and dishes (she breaks a lot, she's very gung ho in the kitchen) in newspaper. I have picked up the habit from her. I wouldn't have thought your bin men would care if they have the automatic lift-and-tip things on their lorry as they never come in contact with the contents of the bin anyway IYSWIM.
