Integrated appliances

How does that work? If they need replaced, new fridge for example, are they all much of a standard size? Do you choose the appliance and slot it into the space - how does the door thing work? Does the surface clip or something onto the fridge door, but then it would have to be exactly flush to the rest of the cupboards etc - anyone got a simple explanation of all this? Xmas Confused

Starrychime you will need to buy specific integrated products as these will have specific fixings for the doors which you will then be able to fix on your cupboard doors.

They do come in fairly standard sizes but it's not a one size fits all!, best thing is to take out what you've already got and measure it.

A word of warning, don't go for the cheapest you can get as I have yet to find a cheaper integrated appliance that has been any good. I have now removed all my integrated appliances from my kitchen and replaced with freestanding items.

Good luck.

They are fairly standard sizes. The cabinet door is hinged onto the appliance door and there are two different types of fixing, choice of which will determine your choice of appliances. You may need to reverse either the appliance door or cabinet door to match.

Beware though that integrated appiances can cost significantly more than freestanding - we had to replace our ff this year and it was £700 rather than under £400 for a fairly standard model.

Ah, so the only thing the cabinet door is attached to is the appliance, not hinged to the surrounding unit, is that right? So you can't just get a fridge to fit the space and put it into the 'cupboard', if you see what I mean?

Just to add I don't have a kitchen like this or I'd have a look myself - house I'm hoping to buy has all this stuff tho! Xmas Smile

No that's right , a standard appliance would be too deep an you'd have double doors. soem kitchen appliance retailers will have display models so you can see the differne types. iirc you have one type which fixes cabinet door rigidly to the appliance door so they open as one and another which has sliders attached to open the inner door as the outer one is pulled.

I've put a fridge behind an existing cupboard door. It works ok but needs to be ventialted properly otherwise motor will burn out. in my current house all appliances are integrated, were expensive but very poor quality (mfi-no disrespect intended...). Dishwasher barely works but not worth replacing.

I really don't like the integrated appliance look. In our last rental we removed the door infront of the washing machine (it was a pain in the neck as it kept flopping open). We did of course put it back when we left.

I have an integrated fridge which I love. You have to buy a special integrated one though - it wouldn't work with a normal firdge.

I also have a freestanding dishwasher though. When we got the kitchen fitted I already had a newish one and couldn't afford to replace it with an itegrated one.
