Moths!

Help, another jumper has been nibbled. Can someone recommend me something to keep the moths at bay. I liked the look of a Cedarwood wardrobe set on the Lakeland website, but it got TERRIBLE customer reviews.

I hate moths. We have had a real problem but it seems to finally be under control (touch wood).

We used those sticky traps (you can get them on amazon) which are very satisfying! I also got a very toxic moth killing spray.

I washed and ironed just about every woollen garment in the house which was a real pain but essential to get rid of the eggs.

Then put all woolies in sealed boxes or vac pacs.

Seems to have worked for now.

Moths are evil.

good luck,

Sticky traps.

Hoover religiously every day. (ahem)

Put balls of cotton wool with a few drops of essential oils (you'd have to google, but I use white camphor and lavender - opinions vary) in dark corners. Apparently the smell disorientates them and makes them less likely to find each other to breed. Dunno though.

Moths like to be low down and dark and undisturbed. Pay particular attention to the bottom/back of your wardrobe, loose bits of skirting, between floorboards.

Woollens should be kept clean and put into sealed plastic bags.

Kill the bastards every time you see one fluttering about.

I've done everything above except the religious hoovering (I loathe hoovering!) and this winter we seem to have none - not quite sure why tbh!

Hoovering? Now I see why the moths seem to love our house so much. Hoovering really not a strong point in our house.

They do get in the carpets though. My mum has a terrible moth infestation and they've eaten half of her carpets and rugs.

Maybe I inherited my non-hoovering ways from her Grin

Yeah, the grubs can eat fluff, not just wool.

I found a rich source of fluff under the bed, and sure enough, lots of mothy tubes.
God I hate those bastards

RamblingRosa · 07/12/2010 09:48

I don't think I've ever looked under the bed Blush. I'm a bit scared to now. I'll probably find a whole ecosystem flourishing under there.

Clearly this is where I've been going wrong.

Must clean house more. I so don't belong on the Good Housekeeping section.

My moths may have died out due to slightly preferring fleece. Not much nutrition in old coke bottles Grin
A mothy Darwin Award right there

We were without heating from April to November(brr)as the boiler was on the blink. We had been INFESTED by moths before then, had Rentokil in a few times (don't bother btw, £££ and useful only in the short term), but used fab sticky strips etc. I think the cold killed them (hooray!) as they seem to have completely gone....

(famous last words)

So, last ditch effort to get rid of them, spray your flat/house, put all your woolies into sealed plastic bags with lots of stinky moth balls, be liberal with the lavender oil, turn off the heating and go on holiday for a month or so.
