You know the scenario - Great Auntie Maude rings she's "in the area and would like to pop in for a coffee".

tidy up but don't clean, tidying up has much more of an impact.

Make sure there is somewhere to sit.

Arrange for a friend to phone in 20 minutes to tell me I'm urgently needed somewhere else?

I check the loo. Other than that, if they can't take us how they find us, they shouldn't turn up at short notice.

Pick up coat and book.

Walk out door.

Lock door.

Go for coffee in town with book.

I hate sudden visitors

Get into car and wait - when they arrive, drive to put which sells pudding. Have ice cream and coffee. Yawn loudly and offer to drop them back at their car.
