What do you recommend for black mould?

In the kitchen, there is a very stupid arrangement (we can't change it - rented flat), where you don't have any drainage board built in, and the worktops are all wood. Instead, there's a plastic drainage board that sits on the worktops, which obviously is not as efficient as it should be. As a result, we've started getting black mould around the join between the worktop and the splashback, and around the sink.

I'm a total housekeeping amateur - what do you all suggest for cleaning this off, and for stopping it growing?

Pure bleach, dap it on and leave for a few hours (or overnight) and then rinse away with warm water. Dry well. Careful you don't get the bleach on the wood.

Alternatively, dettol (careful with the wood).

The Dettol Mould and Mildew remover is fantastic for removing black mould from grouting between tiles so I would imagine it would do the same here. I would check whether it is ok with wood first though.

use masking tape on the wood - Grot Buster or belach will lift the colour - I know by experience ;(

HG mould remover is VICIOUS but would probably lose colour on the wood--but you would no mould left then maybe you could lightly sand the wood??

Dettol Mold & Mildew remover is very effective but use with cautions, it's quite toxic, needs plenty of ventilation in the room before spraying and don't breathe it in.

Bleach is just as good as the specialist mold removers and it's cheaper.

Bleach is not just as good as HG Mould Spray.

The mould remover does work, but not if it is ingrained in the wood. I should know as I have just spent a small fortune in having my old (mouldy and grotty) wood work surfaces replaced with some lovely shiny non wood ones.

You can kill off the mould with the Dettol stuff - it does work because I use it in the shower, but you won't be able to remove the black discoloration I'm afraid, I have tried many times.
