1.5 sinks vs just one sink (utterly tedious I know), are they worth it?

As I say, very dull Q but can anyone pass an opinion on whether having one full bowl, one half one is worth it vs just a single one? Planning new kitchen, dh sinks necessary, I don't.

Many thanks

@Mummydoodie why are you resurrecting a post from 2010?!
Hopefully the OP got her kitchen sorted by now Grin

I thought I was starting a new post doh!

I am interested if I’m ten years ppl have changed their minds. I hardly use my sink other than to drink water. But the Majority say 1.5. Wondering if times have changed.

Thecobwebsarewinning · 10/11/2020 18:03

I had a double sink for 20 years before we moved to this house. It was great. Now we have a 1.5 and it isn’t as useful. If ever we redo the kitchen I will have a double again. But it’s probably better than just a single.

@porcupine11

take the half sink, i'm missing it soooooo much since we moved, one is a nightmare!
Yes!!

Last 2 houses had dual sinks, current has single. Despite always having a dishwasher, I miss it sooo much as when I need to drain pour something away, the sink inevitably has something in it.

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/11/2020 07:42

I have a dw and the sinks only used fir filling the kettle so when we do our kitchen I’ll be getting a tiny round sink and no drainer.

Yes shame it's a zombie thread, you'll get fewer replies.

I couldn't wait to get rid of our 1.5. I like a big sink though - something I can wash oven shelves, fridge shelves, draining racks in. We have a 60cm wide sink from IKEA and we use a smaller washing up bowl inside it. But if you want a small single sink then get one. I don't think you will regret it.

Murmurur · 11/11/2020 08:27

(and if you do regret it, replacing a smaller sink with a bigger one should be very doable)

I'll reply to your ZOMBIE THREAD Grin

I am currently having my kitchen re-done, and have gone for one sink. The old one had some kind of vegetable incinerator in it when we moved in, that has never worked. It just got dirty and manky through lack of use, and was just an extra thing to clean.
I currently have a cheap temporary single sink rigged up, until our new one is fitted with the worktops, and I haven't missed the extra bit at all.
(Although I do have a dishwasher, and a utility sink).

Mummydoodie · 11/12/2020 22:07

Thanks guys. I’ve gone for 1 big single. It’s not plumbed in yet but looks fab. I don’t think I’ll regret it at all.
Only thing going in .5 was old teabags so hopefully now they can go straight in the bin!

Cynderella · 11/12/2020 22:46

We've just replaced old Belfast sink with new 1.5. I preferred the old sink but it was impractical. Although I use a washing up bowl, I still missed the .5 when I just had the single Belfast.

Now I have the 1.5, there are definite advantages - as mentioned above. But, ideally, I would have a double sink. The half sink is fine for draining a saucepan or tipping away leftover coffee, but it would be more useful to have it full size.

opinionatedfreak · 12/12/2020 14:13

I was insistent on having 1.5 bowls when I did my kitchen. Except the one I chose has too small a large bowl to wash baking trays in and drives me mad.

Choose carefully.

I do use the second sink a lot of draining stuff when the first sink has things in it.
