i have slate tiles through hall and kitchen.they look nice but keeping them clean drives me mad.i tend to hoover up or use dustpan and brush (dd sacred of dyson) and then wash floor with cloth.time all this takes means it does not get done v often.mops must be better?my tiles have bumpy surface so not sure what is best method.am tempted by those static cloth ones and another sort to wash.is there somebody out there more organised and houseproud than me who can help make my kitchen floor happy again please?!

E-cloth mop the best!

Vileda super mop is good.

I second the E-cloth mop from Lakeland - i have a bad back and can whizz round my floors in minutes with next to no effort, and they don't need harsh chemical cleaners, you can just use water and the floors come up sparklingSmile. And the mop heads can just be bunged in the washing machine.

An absolute must in my house with laminate flooring throughout downstairs, 2 (soon to be 3!) young children, and 3 cats!! I do my floors daily, and it literally takes 5 minutes to do the whole of downstairs.

Don't suppose you have a VAX wet/dry hoover?

I've just bought the new 'hard floor washing' attachment and boy my floor has never been so clean! Dries it all too.

Hi, Thanks for that everyone! Think I will go with the majority and buy an e-cloth, though I did nearly buy the vileda at the supermarket today Celia!
Parentally, I thought I had a challenge cleaning floor with two little ones.I bow to you-all the very best for number three.
Furball I don't have a vax-guess that is a whole new option...
Thanks again. Will look forward to some quicker cleaning soon...Smile

How exactly do you use those ecloth mops? How is the water applied to the floor? And do you need to rinse the head during the mopping? Can someone please explain as though to a child - I really do want to learn to keep house better, it just doesn't come naturally to me and I need lessons.

parentallyinept · 26/11/2010 20:05

ladybee - you literally just soak the e-cloth mop head in warm water (or your preferred detergent) then wring it out so there's as little water as possible still within the mop fabric, then attach to the metal mop base (mine attaches with velcro) and away you go!

As i do my floors pretty much daily, i don't usually bother re-rinsing the mop head during the process, but if you do need to, you literally just remove the pad from the mop base, swirl it in the water, wring it out again, and reattach. When you're done, just bung the mop head in the washing machine (60 degrees is fine, just don't use fabric conditioner as it reduces the efficiency of the fibres). EasySmile

I would advise having a few spare mop heads though, so you've always got one to use. I was sceptical about it, and debated for a long while before buying, as they are quite pricey compared to other mops, but i can honestly say i wouldn't use anything else. My most-hated chore is now the easiest to do!

I love the e-cloth mop - but I don't bother faffing around taking the cloth off to re-rinse - I just sprinkle some water on the floor. It works!
