  1. get a cleaner
  2. pay them well so they stay and will do a good job
  3. do things when you have most energy so can do quickly
  4. get everyone else to do as much as possible - ie children get pocket money for certain jobs
  5. everyone needs to tidy up after themselves. if they don't give them a warning and then put everything in a black bin bag and put in garage

can you tell i don't like housework?

MonkeySee · 23/11/2010 14:28

1 Make sure everything has a place.
2 If it doesn't - do a declutter
3 If still not - do it again
4 If you can't afford a cleaner, be your own. Put the hour or 2 on the timer, prioritise the jobs as you would do if you were paying someone. And when the timer goes off, stop.
5 Go to bed with a clean and tidy kitchen/sitting room everynight.

  • tidy up at least once a day
  • keep on top of the laundry basket
  • delegate to everyone living in the household
  • don't make extra work for yourself (there are tops that don't need ironing, you know)
  • get a cleaner
MickyLee · 23/11/2010 14:43

Fantastic thread.

Mine are:

  • Clean up kitchen after each meal
  • Shoes off at the door
  • Try to make children only eat in the kitchen
  • Monday to Friday, Clean one room per day on rotation.
  • Iron after every wash to avoid overload.

Iron after every wash to avoid overload.

Use strategic drying/shaping to elimitate a lot of ironing except absolute essentials

JetLi · 23/11/2010 14:49

Learn to iron sitting down.
Iron with wine & TV.

Accept that you are going to have to pay to outsource part of your domestic burden. Then think long and hard about which bits you hate the most and how to outsource them most efficiently/cheaply.

Declutter regularly and donate the proceedings to good causes.

notquitenormal · 23/11/2010 15:12
  1. Outsource as much as possible.
  2. Reduce the amount of stuff you have.
  3. Clean and tidy as you go.
  4. have a place for everything and put things back there when you're not using them.
  5. Expect everyone in the house to clean up after themselves (so only actual housework needs doing) and tolerate no slacking.
OnlyWantsOne · 23/11/2010 15:36

I have a place for things, I put things back, DP doesnt... needless to say it does my head in

  1. Declutter & have a place for everything
  2. Don't iron
  3. Always sort out kitchen at end of each day
  4. Sort out bedroom and living room floors at the end of most days
  5. Expect everyone to help, train them up as needed, and never go back on this
Scootergrrrl · 23/11/2010 16:51

Baby wipes to clean up small spills and marks
A place for everything
Get rid of crap
Make sure downstairs is vaguely tidy at bedtime.

Learn to follow own advice to avoid living in a pigsty Grin

stirlingstar · 23/11/2010 16:52

And by "help" I mean "help the house to stay clean and tidy", NOT "help me to keep to house clean and tidy".

gregtheguineapig · 23/11/2010 16:56
  1. Clean up after each meal.
  2. Shower Shine!
  3. Wash non iron stuff all at once so you wash and then don't have ironing afterwards!
  4. Get a very good iron (and always iron with wine in hand!)
  5. De-clutter and be ruthless, if it's not beautiful or useful chuck it out!
soppypreggyloon · 24/11/2010 08:32
  1. Get a dishwasher
  2. Wet dusting
  3. Don't iron just shake dry and fold
  4. Viakyl for when the bathroom gets away from you
  5. Baby wipes- clean anything off anything! I got the greasy fudge off the cooker extractor hood with some! Much less mess than liquid cleaners!
loosinas · 24/11/2010 09:17

i see everyones talking about decluttering... an i know i need to do it... but what if you find EVERYTHING beautiful and useful lol

Arabella36 · 24/11/2010 10:11
