Did you find out what it was yet?

whomovedmychocolate · 23/11/2010 21:39

I just had a thought - did you stow any sex toys up in the loft that have a pulse function?

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 24/11/2010 11:12

We have similar noises. I'm presuming it's squirrels, or rather, convincing myself it's squirrels and not rats.

I'm not going up there though. Have asked DH to but he hasn't. STILL. And I don't care all that much because I wear earplugs most of the time and don't hear them.

I did have a bat our bedroom once though - flying round and round - was quite a weird thing to wake up to.

I think OP has been murdered by the man living in her attic Shock

Suncottage · 25/11/2010 16:30

My boss has glis glis in his attic - he traps them and releases them into the field where we work.

They are nocturnal and he says it sounds like they are river dancing up there at night.

stinkypants · 25/11/2010 21:12

ooh gosh, sorry - did think i'd checked this but obviously very incompetently!! i am delighted to announce that i have not been murdered! but sadly we have no idea still. we read a bit more about such things on the internet and decided it must be rats, so bought some traps and poison (nothing very ethical i'm afraid, as DH was not keen to deal with live rats) - and left out the finest chocolate buttons for them - but to no avail - it's all untouched and the scratching continues. there are some white droppings fairly high up. would this be bats?!!!!!

btw, i have been laying awake trying to think how to describe the sound, and it is like a guiro crossed with someone grinding their teeth with a bit of finger drumming thrown in. hth.

Stinkypants

Have you seen the film The Exorcist? It all started in the attic.....

Sounds like a bird to me. Pigeon?

northerngirl41 · 25/11/2010 22:25

Do you have trees near the house? If so it could be squirrels or stoats. They climb up the trees and into the attic because it's warm.

whomovedmychocolate · 26/11/2010 15:25

They prefer bacon. I have rentokill poison bait traps - they eat the gubbins and then run off and die quite quickly.

Jaquelinehyde · 26/11/2010 18:57

Mwhahahahahaha unlucky with the poison, I'm not that foolish you know!!

stinkypants · 27/11/2010 11:03

he he he. well we have kinda given up for now - they dont seem to be doing any harm, whatever they are, apart from the scratching. hey ho.

Ugh, I had this last winter, turned out to be mice in the attic, I put poison down and it soon got rid (sorry, I know some people don't like the idea, but ho hum, they're dirty and I wanted rid of them quick)

You could contact your council environmental health department, they should be able to send someone to have a look if you're not having much luck yourself.

moragbellingham · 29/11/2010 17:18

Bats, or pigeons.
