Heated clothes airer from Lakeland

I saw this getting good reviews on another thread, and am now trying to persuade OH that it might be worth 75 quid to rid our flat of the endless drying laundry.

Just wondered if anyone has one, and could tell me how hot it gets? Hopefully not so hot that it would be dangerous to small DCs.

Also, the reviewers say it works best when you lay the items flat rather than hanging them from the rails, but how many layers can you pile on before it stops drying effectively? Can you really fit a whole wash load (or two) on it at once?

this looks similar, but I love my ones from lakeland

emmie31 · 23/11/2010 12:20

Ive just bought one and I love it! so much better than my washer dryer.

SpeedyGonzalez · 23/11/2010 19:31

Oh please don't say I can get it cheaper on Amazon; I'm avoiding them like the plague after that paedophile story.

I am amazed to see such high praise for this dryer, are you lot sure you don't work for Lakeland? Grin

the pop up not allowed for me somehow.... must contain too much nastyness, maybe best I can't see it... could you let me know if there is a danger on amazon without telling me the nastyness please...

TheFoosa · 23/11/2010 20:43

didn't Amazon remove it?

anyway, that dryer is now £37, will it be as good as the Lakeland one?

Foosa, at first they refused to remove it. It was only after a storm of international protest that they conceded. The story in the Telegraph reports two similar incidents in the past, so Amazon appears to have a bit of a history of not giving a damn about sexual violence.

Thanks all for the useful replies. I have one more question, not sure if anyone can answer but when it's switched on, is it permanently consuming power? Or is it thermostatically controlled so that it heats up intermittently and then switches off when it reaches a certain temperature?

I am trying to get an idea of the running cost. If it's always consuming 300W then leaving it on overnight, say for 10-12 hours, would cost us around 40-45p. We would notice the difference to our electricity bill if we did that several times a week.

It's not thermostatically controlled.

We have one of those 'Smartpower' devices that measures electricity usage in our house.

It registers 3p an hour while it is on.

I have one of these and I love it! I have a tumble dryer as well but find the airer good for a small load and also things you would not risk in the dryer...

I leave it on overnight in the spare room and close the door and everything is dry in the morning :)
