Pants and tea-towels in same wash?

Nice or nasty?

HRHMcDreamy · 17/11/2010 13:44

I always do my t-towels in a hot wash with bath towels and without fabric conditioner so never get the whole pants + t-towel dliema - that's not helping is it?

halfapoundoftreacle · 17/11/2010 13:47

As long as you don't get them muddled before washing. That could be very nasty.

ChippyMinton · 17/11/2010 13:48

Life is too short to sort laundry

Bumperlicious · 17/11/2010 13:49

Wouldn't even think twice about it. it all comes out clean doesn't it?

JarethTheGoblinKing · 17/11/2010 13:50

Why wouldn't you? Teatowels just get chucked in the washer at the end of the day, and go on with whatever the next load is.

marriednotdead · 17/11/2010 13:56

Agree generally, it all comes out clean so why not.

Personal exception has been bedding/clothing from accidents/bedwetting. I always preferred to wash those separately.

WhyHavePets · 17/11/2010 14:00

Never even crossed my mind to think about it tbh.

Hmm, washing etiquette, now there is another concept that passed me by! If it helps I do wash the dog and horse stuff seperatly to the rest of the washing? [doesn't want people to think she is totally minging emoticon]

Fayrazzled · 17/11/2010 14:09

My mum always taught to me to do tea-towels and dishcloths separate to clothes washes, especially pants, for hygiene reasons. Especially if you're only washing at 40 degrees or lower, then I'm not sure if the everything does come out clean enough. And I don't like the idea of being at someone else's house and having my mug dried by the teatowel that was washed with their knickers.

I could be weird though.

WhyHavePets · 17/11/2010 14:39

That is where I went wrong, my mum (or dad or anyone else) never taught me to do washing, I just gave it a go!

I can kind of see what you are saying about 40 degree washes. It still just doesn't seem to be something I can get bothered about though! What do people do with their undies that is so terrible? Bearing mind we wash int he same room we, erm, poo and we wash our bodies with the same cloth we wash our privates! I just can't see that the cross contamination can be all that bad?

mamadiva · 17/11/2010 15:08

I would imagine that the amount of bacteria and germs that comes out of a wash is nothing compared to the stuff you come across in day to day life so just chuck it in and wash!

ethelina · 17/11/2010 15:11

It all goes in together here, barring bedding and towels.

ethelina · 17/11/2010 15:13

And for all I know you could well have been round my house and used my knicker-sullied teatowels! Grin

GlynistheMenace · 17/11/2010 15:21

I washed cloth nappies seperately mainly due to the temp, but tbh, how much soiling is there in the average pair of dirty pants?

Be honest, unless you never wipe your arse it's going to be very minimal.

Unless you have worms. Then I'd prob wash them in with the clothies.

nameymcnamechange · 17/11/2010 15:22

NEVER! Shock

Sidge · 17/11/2010 15:31

Well unless you have big skiddies I don't see why you would separate them.

I mean, they're being washed - it all gets sudsy and gets rinsed and comes out clean.

MrsVincentPrice · 17/11/2010 15:51

I do teatowels in a very hot wash so I'm happy to put pants in the same wash (unless they're delicate and wouldn't survive the heat of course).

QuinionsRainbow · 17/11/2010 16:56

Nasty! Tea-towels go with other towels at 60C. Never, NEVER, NEVER with knickers. That's one of the laws of the universe.

BudaisintheZONE · 17/11/2010 16:58

Nasty. Always do towels, tea-towels and dishcloths together at 60. Clothes at 40. Bedding separately on 60 too.

WowOoo · 17/11/2010 17:01

White boil or coloured hot wash together ok.

But on a 30 wash, not my sons pants! They go in with our colourful towels, tea towels and various rags..

LadyWellian · 17/11/2010 17:03

Have no moral objection, but tea towels go on at 60 with no fabric conditioner, while pants are done with general clothing at 40 with fabric conditioner, so it's not something that comes up for me.

bornorg · 17/11/2010 17:06

All kitchen things like towels, dischcloths, duster cloths, table mats, etc go in separate wash - never with regular clothes.

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 17/11/2010 17:07

Nasty. i always sort my laundry.

And i always wash pants and socks ON THEIR OWN ( sometimes with anything else really manky like very muddy jeans or ds snotsleeved tshirts during a cold). do one wash a week of pants/socks, keeps us going.

I would boak at the idea of putting things i will clean my face or my coffee mugs in the wash with things containing traces of sweat, skin cells or pee pee poo poo. Just YUK!!

Mummiehunnie · 17/11/2010 18:05

blimey, I will change my ways, I just put stuff in as it comes along to be washed. This thread has really gotten me thinking... is this how it goes?

Towels- one load for whites, one load for darks

pants and socks - one of each load

bedding - one of each load

ecloths/ttowels etc - one of each load

what else are you sorting...

I am quite grossed out by my lack of thinking now lol x

bornorg · 17/11/2010 18:30

I do all clothes ie sheets, tshirts, pants, socks etc but separate these by darks, whites and what I call lights (ie pinks, yellows etc).

Normally I have enough to fill the machine with bedding so these would go on their own but if not they go in with the other clothes.

Ditto for bath/hand towels - separate by colours. It is nice if they go on their own as then I dont use conditioner and this makes them nice and fluffy but with all other clothes I use conditioner.

And then finaly all the kitchen stuff separately.

Mummiehunnie · 17/11/2010 18:36

I do a darks, mids and whites, i do whites on 60% and bedding on 60% regardless...

Where do you hang you washing?

when do you put it away? I am dreadfull and pile it up and put it away in stages!
