Tumble driers - are they worth it?

Life is getting on top of me and I need a new labour-saving device!

Do you have a tumble drier? Is it indispensible? Do you still have to hang up much washing in the winter? What brand would you recommend?

My house is one great humid fug of drying racks at the moment and I can't stand it!

Thank you so much Ponders!

On discussion with dh we can probably do vented now, as it will be in the back room where there's plenty or room and wall space, rather than knocking out a cupboard in the kitchen and having to use a condenser. Will look at the White Knight one. Brilliant help thank you.

I think a tumble drier is an absolute necessity, and you don't even have to use it much to get the most out of it. If you have a washing machine that spins really hard and you then pop your freshly washed laundry in the drier for 10 minutes to get it nice and hot and then hang it straight up on hangers on a drying rack, you will get the creases out and your laundry will dry quickly as well.

Good tip, thanks Bonsoir. Will go to bed thinking about the wonderful, organised, dry home I'm going to have come January!

oooh, Anna, that is a good tip - I'll give it a go tomorrow Smile

Do vented ones dry loads quicker than condensers? We have had a condensor which is now on the blink so looking to replace. Thinking aobut a vented one as we have a window nearby so thinking about sticking the vent through that.

Our condenser seemed to take nearly 2 hours to dry a load sometimes. I don't think we overloaded it. This was on the low setting though. If we used the high setting it used to shrink most stuff.

Sent dh out on a reconnaissance trip today, and yes curly, apparently they are more efficient. We're going to go for a vented one now because we'll put it in a room with a window, and they're cheaper, so if anyone can recommend a good vented model I'd be grateful to know Smile

I did actually dream about owning a tumble dryer last night Blush

Oh Hope, the very best thing is taking eg a pair of jeans out on a cold day & then putting them straight on

Bliss!
