I was steaming my veg last night and obviously didn't put enough water in as i have burnt the pan (black and stinking). Is there any way of cleaning it or will I have to buy a new one? I use it all the time so would love a cleaning solution if there was one?

astonish household paste (or equivalent) and a spontex brilliant scourer normally gets burnt stuff off of my pots/pans

HowsTheSerenity · 01/11/2010 13:38

Two options

put a heap of salt in it with some water and boil it. Then scrub the black off

or

put in tablespoon or so of laundry powder and leave overnight and scrub the next day

Bicarb and water then let it boil and cool the wash out, rinse and repeat as necessary.

A dishwasher tablet also does the same trick as laundry powder

NinjaChipmunk · 01/11/2010 13:50

I have a dishwasher tablet i could try tonight. does it need boiling water with it? and if so is it just to the top of the burn line?
If not then i can try the salt thing. many thanks.

pollyblue · 01/11/2010 21:02

I've heard soaking it in cocoa cola should shift it - never tried it myself though Smile

pollyblue · 01/11/2010 21:04

coca even

Biological washing powder works well, soak overnight - I often have to do this Blush.

MrsJohnDeere · 01/11/2010 21:07

Dishwasher tablet plus water. Bring go the boil ten simmer for 15 mins on the lowest temp possible. Should be good as new by the end.
Works best with econo tablets rather than 5-in-1s ime.

My mum swore by bleach; don't like doing it but sometimes there's nothing else for it. Soak with undiluted bleach for a while. Wash very very thoroughly afterwards Grin

I'll do the vinegar thing in future. MN is the biz!

glad it worked ninja Smile
