My ancient Dyson has just died - it used to belong to my mum (think she got it when they first came out at least 15 years ago!) and I've had 4 years of loyal service before it blew up last week. Since then I've borrowed my friend's Dyson DC24 (pros: lovely and light; cons: very short cable) and my neighbour's DC32 Animal (not sure it was all that more brilliant at picking up cat hair than any other tbh). I really like bagless vaccuums, I find it strangely compelling being able to see how much dirt I've hoovered up!

So, over to you - what should I get now? I'm looking at the range of Dysons on Amazon and my head hurts, but I'm not sure I want to go back to the bag...

Sebo X4. Uses bags, but is the best vacuum cleaner I've ever had (and I've owned a few).

Argos Value upright.
Yes really.
It's light as a feather, sucks really well and costs £30.

meile. get the most powerful you can afford. mine dealt with a load of builder's mess when my flat was being replastered, and eventually it did go wrong, but meile repaired it under the guarantee even though it was covered in paint plashes and had obviously been 'well' used. 8 years later it is still fantastic.

I chose it because it was recommended by which, and I am so pleased I did!

I like the bags: easy to clean out... so long as you remember to get plenty when you're in the shop, or order on-line.

Just marking this thread cos my 12 year old Dyson is almost ready to go into retirement.

I prefer bagless too - just chuck the contents in the compost Smile
