Where do you put clothes worn once?

Ones that aren't smelly or dirty and can go another outing. Do you just fold them and put them back in the wardrobe/hang them up? Or do you have a special place for them? I don't have enough wardrobe space so they just pile up on top of my laundry basket and it's driving me bananas! Trivial question, I know, but I'm hoping someone will have some magical solution .... Thx!

Isn't this what bedroom chairs are for?

For 'nice' clothes I hang them on the outside of the wardrobe door to 'air' to avoid re-ironing.

pagwatch · 05/11/2010 17:56

seriously Banging?

I wore a woolen skirt for about 8 hours today. would you dry clean it after that?
are you seriously minted?

I hate putting worn clothes back in the wardrobe.
I've also read that it attracts moths (the body odour of women).

Mine are on the floor....nice. Until I think I might as well just wash the darn things than have them hanging around!

preghead · 05/11/2010 19:09

Me and dp have ikea towel rails in the bottom of our wardrobes and fold (me) sling ( him) everything on there. The dss have a basket on the bottom of their ikea wardrobes that they completely ignore but I transfer their on the go clothes from the floor to there

Lotster · 05/11/2010 19:15

On top of my linen basket.

Not back in warbrobe so wardrobe stays fresh smelling as poss and not like a charity shop Grin

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 05/11/2010 19:21

On the bedroom chair, or if it's a dress or skirt then I hang it back up.

Tbh not much makes it to another day, DS generally smears me with something over the course of the day!

bigTillyMint · 05/11/2010 19:24

I either hang it on the end of the bed (if I think I will wear it again soon) or turn them inside out and put the back in the wardrobe.

I thought I was the only one who did this, apart from DH as ex always put everything straight in the wash!

MakemineaGandT · 05/11/2010 21:10

on hangers on the hook on the back of the door.....I never put worn things back in wardrobe or drawers (other than skirts or similar). Tops usually only get worn once anyway. I try not to let too much accumulate in the "holding area" of worn things.....so will wear again then wash (though I don't wear the same things on consecutive days....I'll leave it a day or two)

DC's - their on-the-go clothes are kept folded on top of theor chests of drawers and they are trained to take from this pile first before getting new things out.

Fibilou · 05/11/2010 21:12

back in the wardrobe

greenbananas · 05/11/2010 22:56

folded on the blanket box

Beamur · 05/11/2010 23:04

If I think I can get another wear out of something I fold it up on the chair in the bedroom - every few days I weed out all of DP's clothes heaped on top and decide what needs washing after all.

earwicga · 06/11/2010 01:00

Floor mainly with some on the end of the bed.

MaMoTTaT · 06/11/2010 01:03

another "floor" here

MaMoTTaT · 06/11/2010 01:04

oh yes - and like earwicga - some on the end of the bed.

Quattrocento · 06/11/2010 01:04

If they are suits etc then I brush them down and hang them back in the wardrobe

Everything else gets washed rather than reworn

Clary · 06/11/2010 01:07

I put them back in drawer or wardrobe.

DH leaves them in pile on blanket box. He won't put them away as they are "not clean" but won't put them in wash as they are "not dirty" Hmm

Far and away his most annoying habit! However I am sure I have many much worse Grin

This is apposite since DS2 wore yesterday's polo shirt today (tho it was in the washing basket Blush)

Clary · 06/11/2010 01:09

quattro do you really wash jeans or, say, a cardie, every time you wear it?

madhattershouse · 06/11/2010 01:14

Another vote for the floor here! If room was bigger I guess I could see the usefulness of a used clothes chair. Grin

earwicga · 06/11/2010 01:18

I thought that when I got a bigger room madhatter, but in reality it is just more floor space for stuff.

Quattrocento · 06/11/2010 01:25

Aye. Don't often wear jeans but they get washed after one outing. So do the DCs, although theirs are generally dirtier than mine. Don't like wearing clothes that aren't totally fresh. Feel free to call me anal.

madhattershouse · 06/11/2010 01:33

Ahh! Thats what I feared earwicga Wink

Clary · 06/11/2010 13:27

roffle @ quattro.

You must do a lot of washing.

You run the risk of clothes moths if you put them back in the wardrobe (moths prefer the dark and just a trace of moisture or organic materials, sweat or food residue, is enough to get them feasting).

Little worn clothes are supposed to go on dedicated shelf space in each room, only me+6yo DS make the effort; 2yo too young, and 9yo+11yo too lazy when the floor will do fine (sigh). DH has his own system (fairly tidy, but I dare not enquire too closely).

JustDoMyLippyThenWeWillGo · 06/11/2010 13:46

Clothes purgatory, on chair in bedroom. Until threatens to take over room and no possible chance of lounging elegantly reading Interesting Book, whereupon I mostly just wash them all.

Constant battle between life I have and that I fondly imagine I might have.
