Bare floorboards - How do you clean them?

We have moved into a house with bare (varnished) floorboards which we love, but DH and I are both sure that when we moved in, they had a bit of a shine to them. Since I have been cleaning the floor it has become dull.

I have been using Flash intended for the purpose (wasn't cheap Hmm ) but it seems to have made it dull.

Please don't tell me I will have to wipe then buff with a dry cloth immediately?! The whole of the downstairs is floorboards!
Living room, dining room, hallway, porch....

Thanks.

white vinegar and hot water.

How do you apply it? Do you skirt it on the floor and use a damp mop directly on top of it or do you have to use a cloth?

I assume you don't have to rinse it, but how much do you need to use? How do you know you are using enough product?

Sorry about the questions, we also have a huge area of wooden floorboards which again are lovely but seem to have lost some of their sheen.

I use about 1/2 cup of vinegar to 4 litres of hot water. then just mop the floor as usual.

Oh and every one in a while I use floor wax

We have varnished parquet. I vaccuum (often) with a Dyson that is good at sucking up the dust that gets lodged between the slats, and wash it (on hands and knees...) with Cillit Bang floor cleaner (the one with bleach in it) and an e-cloth. Varnished parquet scratches very easily, so it needs to be (a) kept very clean and dust free (b) washed with gentle cloths.

method wood floor cleaner is great. i also use a mop head designed for wood cleaning.

also i don't clean them v. often which is a win win.

On the back it says a capful to so many litres or something, I checked I had the quantities right. I thought maybe I wasn't using enough.

You can also use it neat but then you need to rinse so I don't do that.

Will try the vinegar concoction first then the Method stuff.

Thanks.

Also, meant to say, I thought about some sort of wax but wondered if it would be slippy as it seems to be quite slippy as it is. Confused

I'd thought my varnished floor needed another coat after a year's wear... then the cleaner mopped it and it was back to looking great Blush

I vac with the dyson, and also have one of those wax-impregnated dusters for when the sun is shining particularly brightly.
