Cleaning bath toys - help please

I have a little boy who has excema. We put oilatum in the bath every night, which helps his skin but leaves the toys coated in a film which then appears to go really manky and black - especially inside the squirters etc.

Does anyone have any good advice on how to clean them?

Much appreciated if you do as I would rather not have to keep throwing them away if I can help it.

Bath toys generally go a bit manky and black - especially squirty ones etc. Every now and again I soak my DS's in coke (as in coca cola!) and it clears all the mould away. I then just give them a really good wash/rinse.

I've found squirty ones to be the worst culprits so we tend just to have 'solid' plastic toys like stacking cups etc which are easier to keep clean.

we throw them out and get new ones :( sorry
In reality we stick to the hard plastic ones which can go in the dishwasher every now and again
my mum was very put out to learn hers had the black stuff inside but it happens to them all after a while

Coke is inspired! I've bleached the bath toys a couple of times but then you have to wash them a lot afterwards.

I can't take the credit SleepWhenImDead, I'm sure I found the idea on MN in the first place. I was amazed when it works, but they come out really well!

Have you got a dishwasher? I chuck them in there.

Coke? must try that!

We soak them in Milton's sterilising solution, which gets at least some of the grime out.

On a side note, a bath every night won't be good for your Ds's excema. Every other night is plenty and the water (even with oilatum) will be drying it out. :)

(My DS also has excema and we learnt the hard way!)

We bung ours in the dishwasher, it works pretty well.

I can't see how a dishwasher can clean the inside of bath ducks which have a small hole on the underside.
