Tumble dryer recommendations please

Tried posting on Chat but with no success so apols for double post.

Trustworthy Bosch Classix dryer is nearing end of life after 8 hard-working years.

I'd appreciate recommendations as to what we should replace it with. Definitely want 8kg. I put an awful lot of loads through the dryer each week so as good an energy-rating as possible. We have a vent but I'll consider condenser if it's better. Is a condenser dryer better? They're certainly more expensive! I keep reading about fiddly water-containers and having to empty same etc so all advice would be great!

Thanks!

i just got one, a condenser, it is so easy to empty the water thingy, the only problem is there is no timer on it, and we have economy 7.

I have forgot what it is called and am all snuggled under a throw watching spooks, but i will have a look in a bit. Grin

do you use those spiky balls? I found them to be amazing for making it clothes soft.

OnEdge · 25/10/2010 21:29

if you have a condenser, make sure sink isn't too far away to tip water into.

i bought a hotpoint large drum condenser last year and its great, easy to empty, no steamy rooms and large enough for duvets!

I've got a Bosch Logixx which I'm very pleased with and I work my TD hard too.

The Which site is always good for white goods reviews but I don't have a subscription. These links might give you some ideas though:

www.guardian.co.uk/money/2010/oct/14/where-buy-best-tumble-dryer

www.allaboutyou.com/Good-Housekeeping-Tried-Tested/list/product?cid=53

Are you sure you're TD is on the way out though? Mine goes a bit sluggish and leaves the clothes wetter and steamier when the filter needs emptying (not the door filter but the one in the bottom of the machine behind the panel).

I think vented is supposed to be better isn't it? The condenser models are really for people who can't site their TD on an external wall to vent out. The guardian link I posted which is based on the Which report, recommends a Bosch vented which goes up to 10kg load as its best buy.

I've just bought my first TD so can't comment on how good it is as waiting for it to be delivered...however, I'd recommend buying from Boots Appliances. Really good prices, AMAZING customer service and you get your clubcard points too.

Thanks for links and replies. Fayrazzled ... yes, it's about done. You should hear the noise it's making and it scorches cottons and it takes ages to dry stuff (even with filter emptied regularly).

I'd looked at the Bosch 10kg dryer - it looks great, only thing is it gets one really bad customer review on Which as it doesn't have reverse action (and when I checked the Bosch website, none of the Bosch machines do Hmm) and that would put me off as the reviewer said that everything ends up in a ball which I can imagine happening.

Mumtorobbie - thanks so much for the tip re Boots appliances. I shall look there, it would be fab to get advantage card points Grin
