surface wash only - do they mean it?

MIL bought DD two disney princess dressing up dresses in Oxfam.
MIL is very pleased with her bargain & DD loves them but they are really a bit grubby & have that really strong charity shop stink aroma

Label says surface wash only - do I risk a really gentle wash or would it really be a disaster? They are genuine Disney ones - if that helps Hmm

It will depend on the cloth really, but most firms cover their bums with over cautious wash care, so as not to get returns, so you can probably get away with it,

but without knowing exactly what they are, I would recommend a gentle hand wash, put them in the bath with a very gentle detergent, leave to soak, swish around & then hang up on hangers over the bath to dry, hopefully this should mean they wont need an iron, but if they do, probably best to just shhot steam at them, rather than touch them with an iron,....thinking there may be some sort of printed motif, or foil/glitter print cloth that will need very careful handling with an iron.

surface wash, basically means wipe clean, baby wipes work well for this, thats if you are not wanting to clean them inside & out

i would wash them in the sink with hand soap and water and hang to dry - NOT over a radiator.

If you don't mind them getting possibly trashed and ruined risk a gentle wash.

But I'd handwash them. Or ask your kind MIL to handwash them!

Think you're right. They're 100% polyester so surely a gentle handwash can't do too much harm. Just can't stand the smell any longer.

If I trash them MIL will think I'm ungrateful, wasteful slattern and Dd will never forgive me. No pressure then Grin

Hi, I had the same dilema. DD's lovely princess dress was looking realy awful, my mum had baby wiped the worst stains off but it was still too grubby for her to wear for a princess party she had been invited to.
I ended up washing it in the machine on a wool cycle, 1000rpm spin and it came out pristine. I then thought 'oh well' and threw it into the tumble dryer. one clean dress and one extremely happy DD.

Yay - I did it!
30 degrees quick gentle machine wash - hung up to dry & PERFECT!
No more Oxfam smell here Grin
