our house is old so has a high rebuild value BUT when re jigging finances ( Thanks Dave Hmm) I notice we pay almost 100 a month for both .

We dont have decent tv or anythign and only one laptop - no games stuff and no jewelry ! I wouldn't mind but my pram got pinched last weekend and when i looked into claiming I had set the excess at £250 - to SAVE money on the premium?

How much is your contents and who do you recommend - this is sainsburys btw.
Thanks!

ours is approx £250 for the YEAR - I'm Shock that yours is £100 a month

but it all depends on house value and location

our XS is £100 and we're with Co-op as they gave loads of cashback through Quidco and I've not managed to find a quote cheaper

have you tried one of the comparison sites? moneysupermarket or confused?

NotanOtter · 18/10/2010 20:09

100 a month!! Blimey, I recently baulked at renewing ours and it's 475 I think it was for the year.

That's buildings and contents, rebuild cost of I think 250 grand and unlimited contents. Ours is with Co-Op too, I found them very competitive for the level of cover we have.

bumpybeck, that's amazing, I'll have to look at that. Mine is about £250 per year for buildings and contents.

trixymalixy · 18/10/2010 20:24

We live in a really old house and have an extremely high rebuild cost and were quoted over £100 by most places. The cheapest place I found was the nfu at £75 a month.

THhankyou all - I am now in the process of looking at EXACTLY what sainsboc are charging me for and with a bit of nip and tuck seem to be ablr to get it down...

NO IDEA where to begin on rebulid costs!

I've just got a new home insurance policy. It's just cost me £125 for the year, and I'll have £20 cashback via Quidco, so it'll cost £105 all in for the year.

I think the excess is £400 as I put it at this level as I probably wouldn't claim for anything minor.

That's for a three bed terrace and about £20k contents. It doesn't include legal expenses, home emergencies or accidental damage though.

I found that the best thing to do is to go onto one of the price comparison websites eg. gocompare.com , confused.com etc. Look at the cheapest quotes and also check on Quidco.com or topcashback.com to see if you can get any cashback on your policy.

If you have a look on moneysavingexpert.com, there is a guide ther on how to drive your insurance costs down.

Hope this helps a little.
