Smelly Washer help needed

My washing machine is about 18 months old.

Just recently it has started to smell. A damp mouldy type of whiff.

I generally leave the washing machine door open when not in use as per instructions) to allow the rubber to dry. I also reguarly clean out the detergent drawer, take it out completely etc.

Anyway I have been aware of the smell for a week or 2. Last weekend I decided to put on a few boil washes as I do in general wash most things at 30 in the hope it might improve the issue.

Last night I did a load and when I took the washing out it actually smelt slightly iffey (mouldy).

So this morning I have had DH pull the washer out and check all the pipes (in and out) etc. I have done 2 3 hour empty boil wash runs with white vinegar and also some Viakal, although tbh for the past 5 months we have lived in a soft water area, so not sure limescale would be the issue. DH checked around the washer etc and there is no sign of any leaks/blockages etc. We have checked all the filters.

Anyway - It has improved but there is still a slight mouldy whiff.

Does anyone else have this problem? Any tips or advice? Not sure what to try next.Confused

I am wondering if this is a problem with washing 90% of my regular loads on a low temperature (like 30 degrees) most if the time.

Yes, stick stuff like bedding in on 50-60 degrees with biological and if you do a wash like that regularly enough, it should stop. Only some super new washing machines are built for low temps I believe, so although the new liquids can clean your clothes at that temp (or so they claim!) the machine doesn't function so well

Have you cleaned inside the door seal really well?

Stick it on a boil wash once a week. We sometimes pour a little bleach in (just a drop) too. Ours gets stinky otherwise as we wash on low temps, and machines don't like it!

Thanks for the replies.

Ah seems the low temps must be the problem! So much for trying to be ECO friendly!

Well Its now on the final boil rinse with nothing in there before I put my towels in.

Fingers crossed the smell goes soon.
