my god i never thought i would post such a dull question, but our stair runner gets really grubby and i cannot be bothered to get the hoover out everytime(loads of stuff in the way).

is it worth buying one of those handheld ones, can you recommend one and what do they cost?

god i'm getting old.

I bought a baby dyson - not it's official name but that's what it's called in my house! They're quite expensive but I bought it online at Littlewoods I think. Opened an account to get £30 off 1st order and also went through a cashback site and got 8% off. It still cost more than my actual cleaner but I use it daily without the effort of plugging in the main one - I love it!

The downside to it is that it only works for 6 minutes on a 3 hour charge. However, I can do my lounge and kitchen floor in that 6 minutes!!

Second the Dyson rec. We use it daily to keep toddler mess in check (sand, Cheerios, etc etc).

I used it four times yesterday -- has def paid its way.

Oh and we also once caught a spider in it (MIL did it) and dropped it out the window so we didn't need to touch the spider or kill it.

There is a more powerful one that lasts about 10 mins I think but costs quite a bit more too! For the 6 minutes you do get it is at full power though as opposed to other hand-held cleaners that start to lose power quicker.

I'll have a look for a link...

Here are some.

This is the Littlewoods one. When you register with them they give you £30 off your 1st order.

My mum bought me a handheld Dyson and TBO I'd rather use a dustpan and brush. It's heavy, ugly and takes up a lot of space sitting about being charged. And it was very expensive (IMO).

Goodness that IS £££. Tempted though - would come in handy for toddler messes in the house and in the car...the back seat of the car is always grubby (my fault though for letting her have snacks while in the car...my way of buying peace and quiet while driving Blush)

We paid £99 for the Dyson a few years back. DH has OCD regaridng hoovering (lucky me!) and insisted, I thought it was way too expensive!

Have since eaten my words - we use it soooo much mroe than the big hoover.

DH hovers DC before they are allowed to leave the kitchen! Great for picking up crumbs etc and fantastic for catching spiders!!!

Would never be without it!

Dixons are doing the Dyson for £93.30.
Not sure about their customer service however and reconditioned items??
