do washer dryers dry clothes??

I bought a Hotpoint Aqualtis washer dryer thinking it would solve all my drying woes. But it never seems to dry my clothes out. And if you include drying, all the pre-programmed cycles are over 3 hrs, which sounds really long. Once I selected "cupboard dry" and threw in a load. 3.5 hrs later I pulled out a soaking wet, steaming hot bundle of clothes with faded colours and ruined elastics. What am I doing wrong?

I have a cheap - cheapest one Tesco did - 5 year old washer dryer (keep waiting for it to die, it makes lots of strange noises!) and it will dry 3/4 of a load to cupboard-dry no problem. Lots of people complain about them but personally mine does fine Smile

wow gemma4d...which one is it?

Doesn't sound right - have had washer dryers before, just do a half load every night, wake up to clean dry clothes...

Mine never did - the problem was that it couldn't take a full load of wet washing on the drying cycle.

If you do half loads you should have better success.

I have an AEG one which is about 5 years old now and it is AMAZING. I love it. It was vv expensive tho.

I don't usually do a wash/dry cycle unless I'm in a tearing rush. I generally do a wash, a 1900 rpm spin and hang stuff on the line or the airer as too much tumble drying is environmental vandalism Wink

However, when I do use the dryer it is excellent, gets things bone dry, no weird smells and no complaints.

I am waiting for it to break down... I will be distraught and penniless when it does.

I've been thinking about getting a washer-dryer for a while - we haven't got space for a separate tumble dryer, and are expecting our first baby (who will want the spare room where we dry clothes as it's nursery!).

My theory is that it's probably worth buying a pricier one as it's more likely to work - was thinking about the Miele but that costs about £1000. The AEG one looks cheaper, so heartened to hear that it does the job. Does anyone know if they need venting to the outside or are they the condenser types?
