What's the consensus on leather sofas?

Nice or naff? We're talking dark brown, soft leather. The ghost of my mother is whispering "common" in my ear, but I think I quite like them and in fairness my mother thought most things were common.

How do you clean them? If I spilt a cup of coffee on one, what would happen?

Our leather sofa is about 20 years old and gets better with age. A quick wipe down with a damp cloth and an occasional treatment with leather furniture conditioner is all that's needed. Not common.

common if matching chair and sofa

ours is not shiny or slippery or squishy
I think you get what you pay for

Leather sofas are good but it depends on who is on it, animal claws and children with pens and things haha

Love leather and never had any problems with cats over a period of 10 year and 4 cats.

Leather looks much classier than fabric and it stays looking good too (unlike fabric).

Another one who doesn't find leather slippy or uncomfortable.

Would never buy fabric seating again and only know two people over the past 15 years who have gone out a bought fabric suites - everyone else I know has gone for leather. Both these suites are looking very tired and grubby, whilst the leather ones still look great.

I only like old battered vintagey ones. New ones somehow manage to look cheap no matter how much they cost.

Excellent, especially if you have cats and children! Wipe down easily, they don't get snagged up or stained. Ours is still looking good after 12yrs hard wear and tear, and minor blemishes add character rather than wrecking.

Is there something weird happening today? This is about the 4th zombie thread without the 'zombie thread alert' that I've clicked on.

I love my leather sofa. It is warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Easy to clean and comfy to sit in. We did have a huge modular trendy material sofa that hurt my back to sit in and was just a pain all round.

So I specifically went out to get one that had a comfy arm rest that you can lie your head on and arm depending on what position you are in and where the back was designed to support my back and high enough to support my head. I wanted a functional sofa for my body not one that just looked good. Mine does look good though as well. It is a standard sofa from DFS. Plus it's super easy to maintain.
