Small holes in all my tops

hotpotmama · 11/09/2010 22:18

Am getting really fed up as all my tops, inc new ones seem to be getting a cluster of small holes in the front, just below the waist.

Don't know what is causing this. Think it could be the washing machine but then that would be strange that the holes are always in the same place. Or maybe its my granite worktops??

Anyone else have the same problem or is it just me??

Just getting fed up of buying new tops and then getting holes in them almost immediately.

I've got this! Thought at first it was moths, but I don't reckon they'd always go for the same place! I'm beginning to think it may be my belt causing it - I always wear a belt with jeans and I guess the pointy bit could be poking through???

TheNextMrsDepp · 11/09/2010 22:29

I get exactly the same! Always the favourite tops too. I heard a rumour it was down to washing powder dissolving some of the fibres. Or maybe it's zips in the washing machine.

StantonHarcourtTheThird · 11/09/2010 22:30

I have 2 small holes nexxt to each other in loads of clothes.

IT IS MY BRA! I don't wash them by hand and the 2 little hooks that do it up get caught in the clothes and snag matching holes.

since I started putting my bras in those tea bag type bags for the washing machine I have had no new holes.

navyeyelasH · 11/09/2010 22:31

I get this and think it's either zips, belts or dc shoes.

Although my newest top has one in the shoulder Shock

FellatioNelson · 11/09/2010 22:35

I have had this too, for years, with various washing machines.

There are various expanations for this, from crap cotton quality, to belts to buttons to bra wires. None of it explains why they are ALWAYS on the front and below the waist.

hotpotmama · 11/09/2010 22:35

But if it was my bras in the washing machine then surely the holes wouldn't be in the same place every time?

It is one of life's mysteries but am getting very fed up as all my tops get holes but no-one elses do which made me think it could be leaning over the worktops???

I had this.

It was my belt.

I bought a new "favourite" belt and it stopped.

Money well spent!

TidyBush · 11/09/2010 22:38

I get this too and it drives me mad - I've never been able to work out what's causing it.

But Stanton that's genius - I wash bras in with the main wash but will get one of those little bags to see if it solves the problem for me too.

schroeder · 11/09/2010 22:47

Rock burns?Grin

greenlotus · 11/09/2010 22:49

I suspect jeans belt, mine has a chunky buckle TBH, but also the fact that if you drive a lot, your seatbelt goes across your lap and adds to the wear and tear.

hotpotmama · 11/09/2010 22:53

Seatbelts, never thought of that one. Will have to test it out.

I have the same problem. It is driving me mad. I thought it could be my belt or even my seat belt. But I have changed belts and pull my tops over my seat belt and it is still happening.

I hope someone has a solution

TidyBush · 11/09/2010 22:54

I don't wear a belt though Confused.

aristocat · 11/09/2010 22:54

i have had this too - it was the fancy jewelled button on my new jeans Sad

hotpotmama · 11/09/2010 22:58

So many people with the same problem and I thought it was just me.

We must be able to solve it between us.

I blardy hate this.

I blame seatbels or jeans buttons/waistband.
It's almost always women who get it.

Angry Angry

leeloo1 · 13/09/2010 22:25

I think its a combination of buttons and belts - I bought new t-shirts and all of them had holes after the 1st wearing - my DB pointed out that when I held the (wriggling) 1 year old, her leg was rubbing my t-shirt against my belt buckle.

Same effect achieved by standing against worktops etc... :(

geraldinetheluckygoat · 13/09/2010 22:34

I get it too!! thought it might be belts but dont wear one that often, thought i might be snagging myself on brambles on way to washing line down the garden, but have cut them back and since had new holes appear. So I dunno. Just wanted to add myself to the hole misery really Grin

ConnorTraceptive · 13/09/2010 22:40

Oh this is a problem that is driving me farkin crazy! I thought it was the washing machine but it's only my stuff. Thought it was moths so spent loads of time freezing clothes and putting cedar blocks everywhere. Then I thought it was belts so have stopped wearing them.

THEN a brand new top that hasn't been in the wardrobe at all (so not moths) and only been hand washed and hasn't rubbed against belt or buttons is covered in tiny holes.

I'm glad I'm not alone but my latest victim wasn't cheap but is completely ruined Sad

moragbellingham · 14/09/2010 08:53

I found that everything in my wardrobe was ok (after using anti-moth stuff) and it was the clothes left out to dry that were getting holy.

Sometimes I leave things out to dry for a couple of days and then in the ironing pile for ALOT longer.
Apparently in summer the life cycle of the moth can be as little as 3 days.

luckyJess · 14/09/2010 20:55

I haven't read the whole thread, but I had this problem and I found the my seatbelt had a plactic disc at exactly the point where I was getting holes. On the underside of the disc was a sharp piece of plastic. I filed it down and hey presto no more holes!

GiraffeAHolic · 14/09/2010 20:58

I have this, but it's definitely something to do with my washing machine/dryer. My beautiful new Joe Brown's lacy cami top :(, various t-shirts and at least two of dh's work shirts.

God knows what is doing it but it's bloody annoying

hotpotmama · 14/09/2010 22:27

Ha ha geraldine, funny Grin.!

So if it was seatbelts wouldn't men get the holes too? Seems like its only us girls that are affected. And the same with belts?

Or are our tops made of cheaper rubbish fabric?

If it was moths, they wouldn't be in the same place all the time, don't you think?

Don't feel like we are any closer to solving this mystery but makes me feel better that I'm not the only one.

OK Brand new jersey Kailko cardigan now has two holes IN THE BACK!!! I have had this on and off for ages and am getting really fed up. Did anyone find out cause and more importantly how to prevent? I always put bras in a bag thing and the holes do not appear in same places. I gentle wash, spin at 900 and sometimes tumble sometimes not.

I know there have been many threads about this but am hoping someone found an answer and can help.
