My wool carpet? When we moved in we were blessed with a horrid lovely wool carpet in a whole range of colours lol, it was made locally it says on the label and was made to fit our house in 1969, yes 1969 pmsl. We were going to replace but to tell you the truth is fab for the kids as spilt stuff just wipes straight of and with it been so heavly patteren you cant see stains! Gross i know but cash is tight and kids make a mess, anyway...

Trouble is DD2 is now wanting to lay on her tummy on the floor, shes only 4mths and the thought of a 50 year old carpet being licked by her is discusting me! Ive rang several carpet cleaners but soon as i tell them its wool and the age of the carpet they wont touch it just incase it gets damaged :(

Is there anything i can clean it with myself? Its not particularly dirty as far as i can tell Confused but it will need a good doing haha.

Any suggestions welcome :D

Rug Doctor steam cleaner hired from Homebase. I do it once a year. It costs about £20 for 24 hour hire, plus the cleaning fluids (detergent, anti foam and heavy traffic spray.) It's knackering but it works really well, has no fierce chemicals, dries within four hours and does make carpets look as near to new as they can. I love it. Even if it is a knackering sweat shop (very heavy machine will leave you sweating buckets.)

Our house smelled like sheep in heavy rain for a day but it now looks good and smells fresh.

And is it ok to use on wool?

Yes - it's great. They just say don't put very hot water in the machine -just hand hot - as you would for woolen clothes.

i've always used one too on my carpets - which have a high wool content. can also hire from local dry cleaners and morrisons. works really well, just as reality says. attachment is good for cleaning draylon sofas. i have dog and smelly children so carpets got really dirty - but looked so much better afterwards

Be v careful - we got our 100% wool carpet cleaned and it shrunk so badly we claimed on the cleaner's insurance.

We now have beautiful wood floor downstairs - blessing in disguise IYSWIM Wink

Thanks i might give it a try Grin

Doesnt matter if it badly ruins it TBH will give us an excuse to replace lol

if you hire one of those cleaners, you will be shocked when you look in the bin afterwards and see the black mud, grit, spiders and cigarette ends
