How do I get strong smells out of clothes?

DS2 has got 2 t-shirts that for some reason I am unable to fathom out, smell of vomit. There's still plenty of wear left in them (and to be honest I really like them on him!), and DH has a T-shirt whose armpits smell dreadfully of body odour.

Any ideas what might return these things to their former, odour-free state?

Interesting.....I assume you have washed them at 60 degrees with detergent?

You can try freezing to kill the bacteria or dissolving a pot of bicarb of soda in water and leaving them to soak overnight. Dry outside.

I've done the 60 degree wash yes, but not the bicarb.

Thanks for the tip.

I finally managed to solve the body odour one for my brother after he suffered this problem for many years.

Spray the armpits with white vinegar before washing the clothes.

Might try this on DPs jumper, i accidently left it in the washer after a wash and it smelt all musty. Ive washed several times and soaked in fabric softner but it still stinks. Might try the bicarb!

I had a top like this and left it on the line in a kind of kill-or-cure way. Rain and a good blow seemed to do the trick, I re-washed when I finally got it in and it was fine.
Bicarb if not.

dh has smelly shirst (bo in armpits).
what I do with them is washing them at 40°c, biological powder, no conditioner. extra spin. hang up immediately after the maschine has finished in an airy place so that they dry as quickly as possible.
you can also put white vinegar in the rinse (don*t worry the smell goes away once the chlothes are dry)
