Storing Playmobil

Hi All

My almost 3 year old have 3 sets of Playmobil. And she loves them and with her birthday and Christmas coming up will probably end up getting more.

I would really like to know how do any of you store it. I am in the process of buying proper storage for her now because I would like to change her bedroom and buy her a nice "Big girl bed" and at the same time want to get some storage ideas for small toys like that.

Thanks for any advice.

We bought one of those big tool cases with a transparent lid and lots of mini compartments. Lego.com also does little red storage units with pull out trays with lots of compartments which looks nice and keeps things organised.

Ours are Iin 3 big clear plastic boxes (the sort with wheels and lids from B&Q), one for castle and knights, one for various animal stuff and ark, one for transport and anything else. In each big box I have a small box (think they came in a pack of 3 from Ikea) in which all the really tiny bits are kept (cannon balls, swords, tiny animals, tools, etc).

Aeroplane and airport sit on the floor because they're too big to store.

I am obsessed with Really Useful boxes. They're not necessarily that attractive if you need to have them on view (although they do come in lots of different colours), but they're sturdy, stack easily and, most importantly, have a secure lid. They also come in so many shapes and sizes that you can usually get one that fits very satisfyingly into whatever cupboard space you have. Did I mention already that I'm obsessed Wink?

I tend to get a biggish box that will fit either one large or several smaller sets. All the major pieces get chucked in there. Then I use a smaller box, one per set, to fit all the tiny pieces in (people, flowers, cutlery, animals, flowers, tools, helmets, more bloody flowers...). Smaller box(es) then also chucked into the big box. This makes it really easy for the kids to keep it tidy themselves, and the sets don't get too mixed up that way.

I need to get out more Blush. LOVE Playmobil though.

Cross-post MrsJohnDeere - like your method! Agree that clear boxes are best, otherwise it's a pain in the arse having to open them all to see what's inside (because the one bit they're desperate to play with is always buried at the bottom of the pile).

Thanks for all the replies, will have a look at the different options online and see what would fit in with the rest of her room.

second the really usefull boxes. we have big flat ones for under the bed and smaller ones for the little parts that fit inside.

Yes -the aeroplane is annoying. The wings are too big to fit ANYWHERE

SoMuchToBits · 09/09/2010 10:14

We have tonnes of the stuff. Ds's playroom is filled with large boxes (one for each "theme"), but the buildings have to live out on the floor of the playroom.

Oh, and Norman the Foreman and his mates have their portakabin on the kitchen table....

We have one of those big round tubs that you can use for gardening.I just chuck anything to do with playmobil in that. We have one for duplo too.I tried having a little bits box but usually it's somewhere else with a couple of sylvanians asleep inside under a hanky.
