How do you store your Lego?

We've been given vast quantities of Lego and I can't work out the best way to store it.

Different things (people, wheels, etc) in separate containers? All in together?

well it starts off sorted into boxes according to type (e.g. normal bricks, people, special bricks, wheels etc) but in normally ends up all mixed up

how old are the children playing with it? my older ones are OK with it all mixed, the younger ones find it easier if it's split up

under my feet in the dark is where I usually find it Grin

Dcs are 4.4 and 2.6. It is only the older one who is really playing with it (and me Grin).

All in together, it will end up that way anyway Grin. Then you can just chuck it into a plastic crate whenever you find it - which will be every five mins.

W have a low table that opens out, and the whole lot of lego goes in there, with special pieces in a separate box. Lego instructions are kept in a box.

Big shallow underbed storage box and corners where they think I won't notice Hmm

meltedmarsbars · 03/09/2010 11:45

In a big crate.

I also find pieces in the compost heap (gets there via composted hoover bags Grin)

PestoEatsPastiesandSurfboards · 03/09/2010 11:49

Same as meltedmarsbars, a H O O G E crate Grin

I got a brilliant storage unit from Ikea - a wooden frame into which you put your chosen combination of plastic boxes or drawers. There are a few drawers for general lego all mixed up, then the themed stuff has a drawer each.(Star Wars, Indiana Jones and so on.)

We have some fab different sized plastic boxes from morrisons, 50p and £1 each. We put people and their accessories in one, special little funny shaped bits in another & larger special bits in another.

The basic blocks go in a large tub and we put the little boxes of bits on top. Instructions go in a bag.

Have to say it's all down DH and at first I was very Hmm as I'm not so organised but it does make it much easier when I'm building them Smile
