How the hell do I stop cats using doormat as a toilet??

I'm so fed up with it now. For the last few months cats have been pooing on the doormat outside our kitchen door. I've cleaned up so many times and sprayed the area with that anti-cat stuff, but to no avail.

I'm thinking about maybe chucking out the doormat (expensive John Lewis one) and cleaning the area again.

Any ideas? Are there any types of doormat that cats don't like?

Shock You have kept using the doormat after cats have weed and pooed on it? Every time you rub your shoes on the doormat you bring cat wee and poo germs in to your kitchen!! Bin the doormat.

Buy new doormat. Season it liberally with pepper. Cats hate it.

Tbh, I'm questioning whether we actually need the doormat there at all. We have another mat inside the door and if shoes are wiped it tends to be there. Mostly the kids just take off their shoes at the door (we are a no shoes in the house family).

What sort of pepper? Black/white? Won't it just blow away?

Black or white, I dont think it matters. We apply it along the doorstep, and sprinkle in front of the door. It makes cats sneeze in the same way as it makes us sneeze. They just run away.

It probably will blow away when dry, so must need to reapply. But cats are quick learners!

Eww! I hate cats.

Unfortunately cats like to go back to the same place, and if they can still smell wee/poo on the doormat they will go there again. Only a clean/new doormat will break the cycle.

Or leave the doormat at the top of the garden to entice them up there!

Get rid of the doormat. It will smell and the cats will go back there after using it.

Failing pepper, powdered cilli gives much the same effect. I use it as a method of last resort because I'm soft and don't like the idea of cats with burning eyes, paws and err....other bits.

Pepper sauce works quite well and does not fly away. Biological washing powder gets rid of the pheremones so they are less likely to return.
